I don't give up. It is made so much worse by professional artists. Many will sell commissions on the side for pennies on the dollar of what they get. These people have names, DA people see this and assume everyone else doesn't need to charge more then them.
Then don’t follow their lead? Don’t be a sheep? Don’t blindly accept such a fate. Not all artists are required to have the same rules set to them. ESPECIALLY when it comes to commission work as we all clearly can see. Everyone aimlessly goes about it in their own way.
Prov would like to step in real quick here with a few cents.
Guys guys guys. Seriously, listen up. Freelance Art is not a commodity. It is a service. The beautiful thing about that is that it means that for each and every artist, THEIR artwork IS a commodity.
Unless someone is literally just saying “I want some art of my character… whatever will do”, then each and every artist has a demand for them.
People want different styles, different skill levels.
That’s why some artists can easily charge $500+ for a blind commission slot, because THEIR artwork is a commodity. If freelance art were a commodity, and supply & demand applied in that way, then they would NEVER sell a damn thing.
This is WHY Prov and I are working so hard on this alternative gallery site called The CM Project. Artists provide a valued service for everyone in their own special way. We want to show case this, we want to get artists OUT THERE and NOTICED. Artists should not be berated and forced to scrap by on pennies just because some people say “YOU’RE NOT WORTH IT TO ME!”. That is just flat out not acceptable and we artists need to put our foot down when the subjects come up.
We all have something unique, we all have our OWN skill level. We have the skills and goods to sell and deserve proper payment for our services!
