"What kind of flowers do you think? Daisies, roses, marigolds-?"
"He doesn't like marigolds." Punz reminded him. They tactfully did not mention that this was a flower all creepers hated, and that they had weaponized this fact against Sam before. "Daisies will look nice I think."
"Yeah?" Dream penned it down with a grin. "Perfect. I'll grab some from the fields, and then try and find a good blanket."
Punz shook their head. "I'll grab the daisies, love. You just focus on the picnic."
"Now where's the fun in that?" Dream complained, but Punz felt a thrill as their partner leaned in and tilted their chin up with his hand. "You wouldn't be planning any nefarious schemes without me?"
"Wouldn't dream of it," Punz said with obvious distraction. Their hands gripped Dreams hips.
Sam was having a fairly average day of walking towards his latest WIP build. It was his next prison, a very cozy-looking thing made of mainly mudbrick. Mudbrick was an absolute pain to make, so he found himself going back and forth between the area he had made a farm for it, and the secret location that he had formed the prison.
Only it was apparently not a secret anymore, because there was a suspicious pile of leaves on the pathway.
His partners had laid a trap for him!
At least, he hoped it was them. Punz and Dream would occasionally take up the mantle of laying down a fairly conspicuous and easily avoidable pitfall meant for him. The places seemed to be random, but with Sam's dedicated schedule it wasn't hard to find places he'd discover it.
They were well-built traps, sturdy, but his partners had yet to perfect the subterfuge aspect of it. That was perfectly fine!!! It took a long time for Sam to be able to successfully fool people into stumbling into his traps, he could hardly expect them to be masters at the very beginning. He made sure to compliment their work every time, and even gave them tips and pointers after they were… through with him. Dream always listened intently, and even though Punz rolled their eyes, they still nodded along.
Dutifully, Sam stepped into the leaves. It was his job to be a good partner and fall into their traps. He couldn't help but feel a little giddy about it, even. The idea that they would put so much work into capturing him-!
Several moments passed. Nothing happened.
Confusion welled up, followed by disappointment. It was obviously a trap; the ground was covered in birch leaves when he was walking through an oak forest. Why wasn't it working? Had Dream and Punz messed up the redstone? But they would have triple checked that before setting down the leaves. Maybe they had left and weren't able to press a button, was he too late…?
He shook his head and suddenly felt a bit foolish just standing around. He slowly stepped off the leaves and back onto the path, trying not to let his mood sink. He hadn't seen his partners all week. Maybe he'd been missing them so much that he mistook a random pile of leaves-
Gravity stopped working. With a yelp, Sam flipped, the net hidden in the dirt flying up to hold him in the tree. He scrambled to right himself, but it was understandably hard when he was a giant creeper in a net.
"Hey Big Guy." A voice that made his heart leap and cheeks warm came from nearby. "I brought you flowers."
Punz looked unfairly charming leaning on a high branch. They held a fresh bouquet of daisies in hand, but from the smirk on their face they were well aware that Sam was in no place to receive them. Sam flushed harder.
^Punz fully intended on having a little fun with Sam before leading him to the picnic with Dream
Also. Sam thinks that Dream and Punz are bad at subterfuge so Obviously He Must Teach Them. But drunz is being bad at it On Purpose. The goal isn't to surprise Sam, it's to make him happy. He gets to be Caught and Wanted with the thing that he's so good at, and he gets to talk about one of his special interests (trap making) afterwards. It feels really good to him, like when your cat copies you because it wants to be With You Doing Your Hobbies. Makes him feel like he's loved (because they love him very much)
