A Moment of Quiet
Tso sat in the courtyard alone, on one of the benches closest to the fountain. This was their favorite spot, and they'd been there for nearly two hours already, sitting in the shade and watching the water in the fountain.
Today had been a good day so far.
They shifted after a few more moments so that they could lay down on the bench, staring up at the gently stirring leaves with one foot propped on the other arm of the bench. They folded their hands and laid them across their stomach, feeling them move with every breath. The water bubbled happily, the leaves whispered kindly, and a slight breeze moved their hair calmly. This was exactly what they liked: something quiet, solitary, and peaceful.
Several minutes had passed since they laid down, but then another sound entered their peaceful world. A door. The soft smile they had been wearing shifted into a nervous frown, and they sat up quickly, looking around for the newcomer. They reached up to run a hand against their hair, trying to disguise how fast their heart was beating.
"H-hello..." Tso said softly, seeing a student they hadn't met before. They were tensed up and seemed ready to bolt if this encounter went south.
