Dear Sam,
How are things going up at college? I'd like to think you're having a really good time and meeting lots of new people and going to parties and football games and maybe that's why you've been too busy to call. I know you have a lot of courses too and I hope you're liking them. I miss everyone a lot. You and Patrick, especially.
Incidentally, I just had a quiz in math class. It was our first one of the year. I did pretty well in it and my teacher told me he thought I would have gotten a perfect score but we ran out of time and I couldn't finish. I guess I was thinking about the problems too much. Sorry, I'm not sure why I told you that. But I like my teachers this year. Really, you've got to believe me. Even my advanced english teacher. I hope you're liking all of your college professors too.
I hope you've had a chance to read some of the books I gave you. I hope you don't mind, but since I gave everybody my copies before summer I went out and bought them all again. At first I felt bad about it, because I thought that seemed like I was going around behind everyone's backs making them think they had my copies of books when they didn't. But I realized those copies are yours now, and they'll always be special because they were my firsts. I hope you can see that too.
