Momma- Inuta of the pair we are looking to place with you guys, finally let us look at her pup. It's a Full-Celestine!! I'm so excited!
Celestines are the rarest breed of Inuta in the entire species! One hasn't been seen or mentioned in any historical writings for nearly two thousand years! We had started to think they had died out completely!
Ok, I'm taking back over. While Aurum freaks out and dives headfirst into another research binge, I'll fill you guys in.
So, Celestines. They can come in three types, though the reality is that it's more of a spectrum. There are Partial, Half, and Full Celestines. Celestines aren't a breed in the traditional sense. It isn't specific traits genetically bred for over time. It is a very precise set of mutations and events that line up perfectly in a very precise order to make a Celestine.
As far as we understand, Celestines used to be common enough that they weren't all too strange. Definitely part of the rarer breeds, but not too uncommon either. We aren't sure exactly what happened to them, but in some way they disappeared entirely over the span of a couple of decades. We don't know whether they were hunted down because of rumors, went into hiding, or just died out for some other reason.
Regardless, they are extremely rare to see in the modern day, both because of how hard it is for one to even be made in the first place and because if one is seen, it is fought over or sheltered and heavily protected for its entire life, which usually doesn't end well for the Celestine either way.
So, the types. To get a Full Celestine, there needs to be a very specific mutation in the pup's DNA while it's developing that triggers a different specific mutation in the formation of their magic when they're pups. These mutations, paired with an exact set of external circumstances, all combine perfectly to make a Celestine. No one knows what the external circumstances are, but some theories are floating around. Anyway, a Half Celestine occurs when the mutations occur, but the external circumstances don't. A Partial is when only one of the mutations occurs or the external circumstances, if both occur, then it's a Half.
Celestines, no matter the type, are said to be very powerful beings. They have powerful magic, but it's extremely specialized. They can only perform one type of magic, such as telepathy, foresight, barriers, magic bonds, teleporting, etc. If they deviate from their specialty- even within the same realm of magic, such as teleporting to portals- they are so weak in the type that they practically can't do even the most basic of conceptual spells. Their power has another drawback, though. Every mention we have ever found of a Celestine has some kind of major disability. The weaker the type, the weaker the magic, but also the smaller the kind of disability.
It seems, from our research, that blindness was a very common disability throughout the Full Celestines in their prime age. From what we could see of the pup when Mom let us look at him, this is true for the pup as well.
Mom still won't let us get close or look at her pup for long, but she is starting to calm down and adjust. She still hasn't told us either of their names or their relation to each other, let alone let one of us close for long enough to get a good picture to show you guys, but we're hopeful she will soon.
I'd better go before Aurum gets too deep into her research dive. Until we have another update for you all, I hope you all are as excited as we are.
