âRemus?â Sirius hissed as quietly as he possibly could. He didnât think there were any of the intruders in this part of the castle, but he couldnât be sure one wasnât lying in wait. âRemus?â He hissed again, and a door opened further down the corridor.Â
He froze in place, relieved when Remusâs sandy-haired head popped out of the doorway.Â
âSirius, in here,â he beckoned Sirius closer.Â
âWow, you have been busy,â Sirius let out a low whistle as he took everything in. Remus had laid everything out on the floor. A jar of honey. Two feather pillows, already torn open. A bunch of balloons and a tin of bright red paint.Â
âIâm going to mix the honey into the paint and then pour it into the balloons. We can throw them that way and wonât have to get as close to those pricks running around the castle. Then we can spray the feathers on them.â
âSounds good, but how do we stop them coming at us?âÂ
A sly smile spread across Remusâs face as he pulled out from behind the sofa a huge, clear plastic box filled with shoes.Â
âI thought we could lob these at them,â he told Sirius, holding up a sandal.Â
âWhere are we doing this?â Sirius asked, trying to figure out how they could make Remusâs plan cause maximum chaos.Â
âI was thinking we get the ones by the main entrance.â
âPerfect. Come on, my love, letâs go raise hell.â
They worked quickly, mixing the paint and honey together before carefully pouring the mixture into the balloons. They gathered everything together and made their way to the front of the castle.Â
Sirius slowly opened the window above the entrance, praying with every inch he pushed it out that it wouldnât suddenly creak and give them away. He and Remus held their paint bombs out over the ledge and looked down. Siriusâs heart pounded in his chest, and his blood rushed from his face. Down below stood none other than Orion and Walburga Black themselves. He clenched his jaw and narrowed his eyes.Â
âNow,â he whispered, and they dropped the balloons, hitting their targets with eagle-eyed precision and then released the feathers, clapping the pillows between their hands until the cascade of white feathers rained down on the sticky pair.Â
Quickly, they hauled the box of shoes onto the ledge and upended it, raining boots, sandals, trainers, slippers and who knew what else down onto his parents and anyone stupid enough to be standing near them.Â
âFUCK YOU!!!â Sirius screamed out of the window at them. Remus had to grab his collar to stop him from falling out; he was thrilled to see his parents sprawled on the gravel below. Â
âYOU!!!â His mother screeched up at him, and it was time to go.Â
âCome on, James is waiting,â Remus grumbled, yanking him back inside and dragging him out of the room and into an awkward, lopsided run.Â
âThat felt so good!â Sirius crowed, forgetting the castle was overrun by his parentsâ minions. He quickly hushed himself and got his head back in the game. He was really looking forward to the next part.Â
