Nosework is a dog sport where the dogs search for a particular scent - most of the different venues use birch oil.
One part of a trial has the dog searching different boxes for the target odor. Normally these boxes are closed, but in my dream they were open, so I could peek.

Once the dog has found the odor, they have to indicate to the handler where it is. Most people teach the dog to sit by the source or put their nose on the source. But there isn't any rule about what the indication has to be, the handler just has to call it and tell the judge where they think it is. So if you knew where the odor was hidden, you could call anything the dog was doing their indication.
It's pretend drug dog, basically.
