QUARTYARD, SAN DIEGO

Home to a beer garden, dog run, food and coffee, and event space, @QuartyardSD at Market and 13th also increasingly serves as an art hub for San Diego's East Village. In addition to the more permanent works on walls around Quartyard other temporary installations can often be found and earlier in 2019 when music and art festival, @KAABOODelMar , held an event to announce their artist lineup for this year's festival, event art director Amandalynn captured the essence of the festivity with this stunner. Based in San Francisco, Amandalynn says she is inspired by the female form and spirit, and her work illustrates their strength with depictions of strong and seductive women.  @alynnpaint/

"CO2 KILLS MERMAIDS"

Influenced by her Asian American heritage and a wide range of skills and experiences—academics, literature and writing, teaching, illustration, and animation—Los Angeles-based Lauren YoungSmith, aka Lauren YS, is inspired by dreams, symbolism, and mythology. Landing on the urban art scene Lauren creates "a misfit wonderland in which imaginary heroines can address the absurdities of reality"—work that @SeaWalls_ says "aims to bring a sense of vibrancy and wonder to every community she approaches." Participating in Sea Walls San Diego in 2016 at Upas and 30th streets, YS painted this message about the environmental toll of ocean acidification....and offered up further evidence of the existence of mermaids.  @squid.licker/

SEAWALLS SAN DIEGO

Influenced by cartoons, anime, architecture, and computer design, self-taught Mexico City artist Roberto Gutièrrez, aka N30, says he was experimenting with with drawing from a very young age. As a teen N30 began using graffiti to express himself on the street and today he says his work "is developed from compositional elements that are related in a geometric way to the abstract and the organic." In San Diego in 2016 as a guest artist for the @PangeaSeed Foundation's @SeaWalls_ Artists for Oceans Program N30 created this wall on Park Blvd. Sea Walls says the mural "addresses the importance of ocean exploration and discovery." @n30n3/

WONDERLAND

A graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, Jason Botkin has created well over 200 murals in the past decade and is the co-creator of the @EnMasseProject collaborative drawing project. With work across North America and Europe, and repeat participation in the @Pangeaseed Foundation's @SeaWalls_ project, Botkin was on hand in September, 2016 when Sea Walls turned their attention to walls in San Diego. This creation at Abbott St and Santa Monica Ave in the Ocean Beach neighborhood, on the back of @WonderlandOceanBeach (which takes it's name from Wonderland Park—San Diego's first amusement park in operation nearby from 1913 – 1916), is dedicated to the preservation of threatened local marine species and the impact of off-shore oil drilling.  @robotkin/
