WONDERLAND

A graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, Jason Botkin has created well over 200 murals in the past decade and is the co-creator of the @EnMasseProject collaborative drawing project. With work across North America and Europe, and repeat participation in the @Pangeaseed Foundation's @SeaWalls_ project, Botkin was on hand in September, 2016 when Sea Walls turned their attention to walls in San Diego. This creation at Abbott St and Santa Monica Ave in the Ocean Beach neighborhood, on the back of @WonderlandOceanBeach (which takes it's name from Wonderland Park—San Diego's first amusement park in operation nearby from 1913 – 1916), is dedicated to the preservation of threatened local marine species and the impact of off-shore oil drilling.  @robotkin/

"LA GRAFFANIMA"

Montreal-based artist Jason Botkin says this tapestry of elements is offered "with the belief that unconventional art inspires others to think in radically different ways." In addition to exhibiting his work across Canada, the United States, and Europe, Botkin says he's been involved in more than 200 mural projects since 2009, including this 2013 work on the eastern edge of Chinatown in Los Angeles. Now almost six years old the work was inaccessible for much of that time, but the opening of @ApothekeLA — The @TimeOutLA "Most Stylish Bar" of 2018—on the lot of @ZynderiaStudios between Naud and Spring Streets has opened a whole new gallery of street art to the public.  @robotkin/

I look at this 2014 painting called “What?!” first thing every morning, as it’s hung in front of my toilet (I try to be off my phone as I start my day). It is a collaboration with my good friend @robotkin and we never defined a particular story or meaning to it. As I look at it today, it seems to be about a broken down freak that is being quite observed or even judged. In general it holds the vibe of not knowing or mystery. In life we don’t know the future, which can sometimes bring up fear and anxiety. We are faced with many options and we don’t know which one is the correct one. In this uncertainty we have to ground in peace, listen to the void, follow our instincts and hope for the best. Either way, nothing can keep us from our ultimate destiny, or from returning to Source.
