A short fic about a possibly neurodiverse Lucien. (Nothing against Lucienne, I would just like to see my boy get some more love.)
To Lucien, organizing books was almost as fulfilling of an occupation as reading them. Even when there was nothing in the library to sort, which was quite rare, he would find himself ruffling through everything his hands could touch, from stationary to dishes, often annoying Mervyn in the process.
Still, books and what laid within them was his purpose, and perhaps, as a result, words and phrases would get stuck in his head, demanding to be spoken allowed. He was partial to mumbling, and often things that did not make sense to others. ‘Tinicature,’ for example. ‘Tin-ic-ature.’ It was a nice word.
Having all the knowledge in the universe at his disposal, he was vaguely aware that there were several diagnoses that may fit such traits. Autism was one he would ponder occasionally, but he never concerned himself with such things for too long. Nothing would change whether he was openly neurodiverse or not. All he knew was that he liked words and organizing, and disliked loud noises and being touched by those he didn’t know very well, and especially liked his library. Still, it was a nice word. ‘Autistic. Aut-tist-tic.’
