Me at work listening to my silly musicals while my colleagues are fighting
someone commented this on my post about how autism acceptance isn't actually accepting of autism, just specific parts of it and people who say they accept autism but get extremely upset if you exhibit symptoms of autism that they don't like are ableist and don't accept autism
'accept that you're a nuisance forever' you are ableist .
if your acceptance is conditional it's not acceptance.
also saying it's not worth being friends with someone if they do things that bother you is weird and probably also ableist. it reminds me of the 'oh i'm not mean to them because they're autistic im mean to them because they act weird (exhibit symptoms of autism) !! im not ableist i accept autistic people (one singular autistic person and only because their symptoms are more quiet (they probably still don't actually accept them either tbh) / only accepts 'tiktok autism') !!' thing that was trending a while ago (it's still happening i just haven't seen it trending on social media in a while) (though that might just be because i got off of most social media)
also you shouldn't have to want to be friends with us to show us basic respect? even if someone is different or 'a nuisance' they still deserve to be respected and treated like an equal.
'if you can make progress' translation: mask your symptoms and put strain on yourself so you're more enjoyable for me to be around
it's also bothering me that they seem to think the post is saying everyone has to be friends with people they don't like?? you literally don't have to be friends with anyone just don't say you accept us if you don't. people constantly tell me that they accept autism when i tell them i'm autistic and then when i actually act autistic they freak out. don't say you accept us if you dont. i want to be able to tell who's actually safe for me to be around.
if you do not accept all autistic people you do not accept any autistic people. you are not a safe space for us . stop saying you are for popularity or so other neurotypical people think you're a good person. i'm sick of ableists lying and pretending to care about us and then stabbing us in the back.
we are allowed to exist in public. being autistic in public does not affect you just move on with your day. 'but they're being loud and it's bothering me' i genuinely don't care literally just go somewhere else. if you can't handle sharing a public space with someone else that is absolutely not the other people's fault. the world doesn't revolve around you and what you want.
we should be allowed to kill ableists with hammers (this is a joke , nobody should be 'allowed' to kill anybody , even if you think they should die , that's not your decision to make)
i'm so tired . i'm tired of having to constantly explain my existence to people who will not listen, im tired of being told my existence is annoying and i need to learn to be 'normal' . i'm so tired
(this applies to lots of other things too . if you want to talk about that you can make your own post, please don't derail this one /nm)
(also psa: reblogs are appreciated but you do not have to reblog this + if any of you reblog this and add reblog bait im killing you )
What’s the flavor of autism that makes you sleep with an abacus?
I don’t understand this “more adult level 1 diagnoses are taking resources away from level 3 children and adults!” rhetoric. And that we’re all just mentally ill. The Atlantic even wrote an entire article about it. Y’all know that….we have to sit in a room with a doctor for hours while they test our brain? Right? My processing is literally so shot that it affects every part of my life and my body. That’s the kind of information (just one of many things) in a report that changes people’s lives instead of just hating ourselves because simple things are so damn hard. You know I’ve been called “short bus” and also “gifted”? What?
I’m not taking anything from higher support needs children and adults and refuse to be gaslit that I am. I am seeing the ONE therapist in my town who specializes in ASD in female-identifying people. And I go to an autistic-friendly meditation workshop. How dare I take resources from the children! My therapist is giving me tools because I literally can’t even tell when I have to PEE. The horror! I just went my entire life getting chronic UTIs! How dare I not be in pain! And I can barely afford any of it.
Interesting that when more women, queer folks, and black folks start to get help it’s “an over-diagnoses” problem. But go off.
Also - here is the absolutely wild article from The Atlantic if you feel like being invisible today
The number of people with the condition has increased rapidly in recent decades. Some researchers and clinicians worry that many patients ha

Finally lost the first and last friend who I trusted enough to unmask around. I will not be doing that again.
Infantilising autistic people is bad, even if they’re your (adult) children, actually. Hope this helps :)
It’s both funny and sad but I’ve been able to deal with ADD for most of my life without any meds because I didn’t have a diagnosis and so… no meds. I just thought the way my brain worked was “normal”.
Now I have a diagnosis and I take meds and eveything is SO much better because of them.
Until I run out of meds without realizing, find out my pharmacy is closed and still need to go to work, unable to get my meds anywhere.
And let me tell you, those three hours between me gettinf to work and my mum getting my leds for me and dropping them off at the office were H E L L
