One of the men under investigation in the Christie Administration's abuse of power is now in charge of the inquiry, presumably because what's a little corruption on top of abusing power for petty revenge and misappropriating Sandy funds?
Shame on the five House members from Georgia who voted against Sandy aid
Have we come to this, Georgians? Are we at the point where we elect legislators who deny help to other Americans who have experienced a disaster.
I know many decent Republicans. We argue politics, sometimes those arguments are heated, but I consider them decent human beings.
The five Georgia members of the U.S. House who voted no to Sandy aid, Broun, Collins, Graves, Price, and Woodall deserve the censure of all compassionate and decent Georgians. Other GOP House members from Georgia voted in favor of the aid, as all of them should have.
If the GOP doesn't clean house of these folks, the Democratic Party should make a special effort to oust them.
Georgians are better than this.
The Grand Old Party in Decline
My brilliant father, a former corporate executive and GOP precinct chairperson, helped me deliver many loads of Chicago Tribunes through 3 tough winters, building my solid work ethic. Not long ago, I was seriously injured on the job while preventing a fatality. I am now on Social Security Disability Insurance. SSDI is an insurance program I’ve paid into for many years. I’ve since worked 2 years as a Peer Mentor in the state-run Vocational Rehabilitation Dept., helping many disabled citizens become Alter-Abled. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate for the alter-abled is very high which is sad because many would love to work. In fact, as many employers have come to realize, alter-abled employees are excellent, dedicated workers so happy to be working! The handful of the alter-abled in my large, extended and supportive family, would love to work more.
Conservative WSJ columnists have criticized those who voted for Obama as being on the guv’mint dole, ready to buy a Cadillac with food stamps. Trapped in a Karl Rovian swirl of denial, these columnists appear to have not updated their opinions with facts—just as Rove forgot to look at the 2010 census and replace the batteries in his calculator. Republicans have cut funding for jobs programs nation-wide while denigrating citizens of color and gay citizens, as their extended families of voters have noticed.
The AP reports that 45% of returning veterans are qualifying for VA disability.
Hubris is a symptom of a blinding state of mind, and it is quite obvious that GOP leaders need to consume tons of common carrots. Republicans might win another presidential election if they support respectful immigration reform, women’s rights to equal pay for equal work, to freely make their own medical choices, and, President Obama’s tax reform and climate change legislation. We are all Americans, and we have several pressing problems and issues to respectfully tend to, those unwilling to work hard and compromise in order to benefit all citizens seem increasingly unpatriotic, and certainly unworthy of my VOTE.
And for those of our elected officials who do not vote for the Sandy Aid Bill on Friday, Jan. 4th, I have only disgust, and a promise to sign and help distribute petitions for recall elections.
The Roosevelt Island community is taking action, helping to serve others in need in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Please know that folks will be in need for the winter months to come. Please "Like" the page, and if possible donate anything at all
All NYC Blue Bottle locations will be donating 100% of revenue to Sandy aid today. This is an awesome cause, plus it's beautiful out, so drink some iced coffee.

A Call to Help Homebound Seniors in Far Rockaway
Sheva Tauby, our cofounder, just got off the phone with a woman who described a very troubling situation at the very tall buildings in Far Rockaway filled with homebound seniors, most with no family. They are without electricity for 10 days already, and a few have not survived. iVolunteer will be going out there tomorrow and give out food, blankets, and to refill prescriptions that have run out (as many seniors need to but can't make it to the pharmacy).
We are leaving from 799 E.8th St in Midwood, (Flatbush) Brooklyn tomorrow, Nov.6, at 11am to deliver the food/supplies. If you are coming with a car and have room for others, please let us know. Please come with anything you can bring including: water bottles, flashlights, batteries for flashlights, food, blankets and your good spirits! RSVP that if are joining please: [email protected]
If you want to help but can't make it, you can also donate, so we can buy the supplies we need to give out and refill medications: www.ivolunteerny.com/donate As always, thank you for helping us help others through this difficult time!
To get a glimpse at what the devastation in this area is like, watch this video from Mayor Bloomberg's unscheduled visit to Far Rockaway:
