3north Principal Sandy Bond documented the Power Plant building in downtown Richmond several years ago before the building was stabilized. 3north is now helping TEDxRVA stage its inaugural event here on March 22.

Photographer Kent Eanes was kind enough to share with us some of his wonderful shots of a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home designed by Richmond architect Bill Moseley of Marcellus Wright and Partners.
3north Principal Sandy Bond led the renovation design for a subsequent owner. Although the owner was unable to execute all the proposed improvements, the firm's work is evident in the front courtyard, the terraces and the master suite.

I wish to applaud Edwin Slipek for bringing to our attention some of the characteristics of good contemporary architecture and Richmond's preference for "watered-down versions of classicism" in his story on the Virginia Center for Architecture's "Young Architects of Spain" exhibit.
3north Honored by AIA Richmond
The evening of Tuesday, April 10th turned out to be a night of celebration for 3north, as the firm received two honors at the newly-restored Hippodrome Theater in Richmond's historic Jackson Ward.
As architects, design professionals and other guests gathered to celebrate the region's best and brightest, 3north Principal Sandy Bond's design for Try-Me, a private gallery in Richmond's Fan District (pictured above), received one of three honor awards. The jury commented on the clean, Zen-like design evoking the feel of a modernistic version of a Japanese tea room in the converted early 20th century garage.
The evening culminated with Erin Webb, Associate AIA, receiving the first-ever Richard L. Ford, Jr. FAIA Award, considered the Chapter’s highest award presented to a young architect, associate member, or intern. The award is made by the Chapter Board, based on nominations by the Honors Committee, to a young person who has demonstrated vision, passion, and excellence to the design community. Erin (pictured below with the 3north team) is a talented designer who has been active with the AIA, Drinking Architecture and the YAiF.
IIDA Event at 3north
The Virginia West Virginia Chapter of the International Interior Design Association will gather on Thursday, March 22 at 5:30pm. Members and guests will tour 3north's offices in the Corrugated Box Building designed by principal, Sandy Bond. The building is unique in Richmond with its open floor plan and sense of community among creative and technology firms in Richmond's so-called "Silicon Valley," the Manchester District. In addition to 3north, other creative and technology firms at CBox include Tumblr, Mobelux, CO+LAB and circleSstudio.

Richmond attorney and restauranteur, Ry Marchant, speaks to BizSense on his newest venture in downtown Richmond, Pasture.
Marchant worked with 3north principal, Sandy Bond, on the renovation of the former Montaldo's building on East Grace Street in downtown Richmond. Richmond In this interview, Marchant discusses his desire to bring new life to a neglected area of downtown.
Opening Next Week: Pasture
According to Richmond.com, Pasture, will be opening Wednesday, November 23rd for dinner. The new restaurant created by Comfort's Jason Alley, is located in the former Montaldo's building on East Grace Street. The building is owned by Six Burner's Ry Marchant. Marchant turned to 3north Principal Sandy Bond for the building's renovation including the apartments upstairs. Marchant's vision is to bring new life back to Grace Street downtown.
With respect to the locally-sourced food and the overall concept of the restaurant, Alley stated:
I want people to feel like they are getting out of town when they come here.
We look forward to "getting out of town" right here on Grace Street.
