Optimist and Pessimist

Akako gave a sigh closing the shop door behind her turning the sign over to closed as she walked along the sidewalk she looked over the earnings from today counting up the loss and gain. Thinking that she had a little bit of an extra amount in her budget she decided to get a small drink as a reward for doing her work well enough to make extra money. Akako quickly walked over to one of the closest Mini-mart and moved to the drinks section, Akako pulled the scarf up to cover her nose and down as she reached to pick out an unbranded dark colored soda. Of course Akako had no idea what it was anyways she never had a soda before now so a new experience, moving across the isles Akako spotted something with a bright color swirling in a machine. Akako quickly moved to inspect the machine though the name was not the first thing to catch her attention, the product looked like ice, yet it was obviously a liquid.

“What kind of trickery is this?” Akako said without thinking as she stared at the blue mixture being sloshed around inside the machine, she was trying to figure out what was causing this. Once her attention swayed from the odd liquid in the machine she spotted the cups laid out, or may cup would be more like it since there was only one left there and it was the smallest one possible. Akako grabbed the cup and lifted it up to inspect it, it was a normal paper cup Akako had seen on normal days around town except it was smaller. “This cup...it’s so small.”

Akako said to herself as if no one was around to hear her, but obviously that wasn’t true, there was always someone at these kinds of places, she just hadn’t noticed it yet. Though with not knowing how to operate the machine and already having a chilling drink in her hand she placed the cup back so that someone else could have it, deciding someone with taste buds would probably enjoy it more than her. Akako moved out of the isle though she found herself constantly glancing back to see if the cup was there as if she wanted to go back and get whatever it was. And soon she stopped and turned around walking back towards the machine her hand reaching out for the cup only to have it taken by a person Akako hadn’t even noticed until that very moment before she could get near it.

this library... does not have what toto wants. he can read modern novels just fine, but classics use complicated words that he doesn’t understand. on the other hand, comics aren’t really appealing to him.

frowning, he pulls a random book off a shelf and opens it up to the first page, only to quickly run into things he can’t read.

well, there is someone else here... it’s a little embarrassing, but he supposes it’s better to learn this stuff at 18 than later on in life. approaching the stranger, he says, “excuse me, can i ask you something? do you know what this word is?”
