I saw you post about artists tagging their art properly and while I agree, I still don't understand what the connection between weirdcore images and derealization is, can you help me understand?
Well, some weirdcore images can have a look that could be related to derealization (orbs, faded collaged images, certain captions) and images like that or certain surreal images could possibly trigger those who suffer from derealization and/or hallucinations. Which is why I believe people should tag their art if it has those properties.
Especially dreamcore. Dreamcore is meant to look unreal because it's meant to capture things you've seen in dreams, which is often gonna look surreal/strange/unreal.
But I also feel like people who have those issues should block tags and consume this kind of art safely rather than getting mad at these artists and claiming they're "mocking" dissociation. Often times, people behind this kind of art do not have those intentions, I certainly know that I don't, which is why I tag any of my images as unreality, because I don't want to trigger anyone.
Someone once vagued me, calling me ableist for the art I make, but it's not my fault, or any other artists fault if this art triggers their trauma or dissociation, especially if I or they try their best to tag, and especially if that isn't at all the intention.
Weirdcore/oddcore/dreamcore isn't meant to mock or take advantage of dissociation. It's in the name, Weird-core, Odd-core, and Dream-core. The image are suppose to look strange and even surreal. It's always been that way. They're made to capture something you've seen in dreams or the vibes of old web images, but these images still incorporate possible unreality triggers.
Which is why I think that if anyone makes art that could resemble derealization, they should tag it, and the people who suffer from dissociation should block those tags and consume content safely.
I feel like everyone deserves a safe and positive environment, but sometimes you have to do your own work to ensure that for yourself.
It's the internet, after all. You have the power to control what you see/do on it.
