Giovanna had been in the small town less than a week, hadn’t even finished unpacking her things, but she knew she should make introductions. It was a small town, not exactly her usual choice of locations, and the woman she’d bought the home from had informed her about Vladamir, a man she said was nearly old as time itself.
Now, Giovanna knew that had to be a bit of a stretch, but as the vampire was clearly older than she, and there was no way she could pretend she didn’t know he existed. This wasn’t San Diego, after all.
It was late in the evening, the sun just setting, but Giovanna wore a wide-brimmed sun hat anyways, matching her floor-length dress perfectly. The handle of a basket was settled in the crook of her arm as she moved up to the door of the large mansion, knocking on the heavy wood door, slender knuckles rapping sharply.
Toni had just finished her shower, changing into her pajamas as she heard a crash downstairs. Confused, she finished pulling on her pajamas, making her way towards the top of the stairs. “Mom, are you okay?” she called out, her brow furrowing for a moment as she made her way to find her parents. There was more crashing and then a scream, and Toni’s heart stopped. “Dad?!
She walked into the living room to find a woman standing in the middle of the room, blood dripping from her sword, her Dad a crumpled pile on the floor. She screamed, reaching out with her magic to attack the woman before she even realized what she was doing.
The rest of the night was a blur of fear and blood, Toni had never been so terrified before in her life. Panicking, and covered in the blood of herself and her family, she ran from her home, heading for the trees and doing her best to lose the crazed woman that was hell bent on killing her.
Barefoot, in only her pajamas, tears streamed down her face as she ended up at the home of a man she knew she could trust, who wasn’t afraid of anything. Gasping for breath, she threw herself at the door, pounding on it until her fists hurt from the effort. “Vlad, open up!” she cried, leaning heavily against the door, heart thudding heavily in her chest, blood rushing so loudly in her ears she was sure her head would explode.

VLADISLAV – unknown – vampire
No one alive knows how old he is. He’s been part of Nightmare from the beginning, one of the founders and holding a spot on The Council from day one. He’s hinted at what he’s seen in his time on Earth; both world wars. The American Civil War. Stages of completion of the Great Wall of China. Beyond that, his age and many other things are a mystery that he intends to keep to himself. The few he has told in the past have surpassed his personal laws and gotten through walls he’s had more than enough time to build against human emotion.
Within Nightmare, Vlad has few he truly values. There are some that he possibly considers friends, or at least as close to it as he has ever allowed. But beyond that he only cares about the town and how it prospers. He does, of course, have connections to other town members, but they are far from being close. He also seems to have a soft spot he can’t explain for the younger generations in town. He’ll go out of his way to interact with a select few of them, while others simply get special treatment over the adults around them.
Having been part of Nightmare for so long and seen so many things come and go, Vlad started out thinking this new sickness would disappear as quickly as it has come. He’d witnessed many plagues in his time, so of course this one was of little concern to him. That is until it didn’t go away. It got worse, stronger, more intense. He began to wonder if perhaps there were more to it than appeared, and it is because of this concern that he has been doing a bit of research. Much of his time has been spent going through old journals of his, and comparing notes with his protege, Ragnar. Despite their long term skirmish, the two ancient vampires believe there’s something dangerous afoot using the sickness as a distraction. This, they’ve decided, is their town. And if anyone is going to destroy it, it will be them. So together, they will find out what’s going on and stop it before it is too late.
They’ve seen too many civilizations fall in their time, after all.
