the meme for me
So I just had a dream where I found out about another 3k adaptation which was centred mainly around Liu Bei and Cao Cao's early marriage years and all the reviews of dramalist were like "this is the most dull unwatchable shit ever made" because it apparently was "too faithful to the source material, the pacing was awful and the conversations were bland and barely comprehensible", and "did they really need to focus so hard on the homoerotic undertones of Liu Bei's submission to Cao Cao? They kept kissing for no reason and it was WEIRD". And anyway I went searching for it because obviously I needed to see it with my own eyes and eventually I did find it and despite apparently being made in 2015 it was in desaturated low resolution 4:3 and all the costumes looked like they were taken from monty python's the Life of Brian. But the weirdest part of the whole thing is that Cao Cao was played by Jeremy Clarkson and Liu Bei was played by James May.
Sima Yi finally joins the court after spending 10 years draft dodging and pretending to have arthritis (at age 23!). Cao Cao congratulates him for his miraculous recovery.
Suddenly remembered that sima yi comes from a long line of stupidly tall giraffe people. His oldest brother was 1.9m and actually got accused of cheating on a test when he was a kid because no one believed he was only 13. His grandfather was like 2m. Laws of probability and genetics dictate that sima yi was above average height, to his own detriment.
Wu after Sun Quan as told by Chen Shou
Curious to know what happened to the imperial government of Wu after it fell? Chen Shou and Pei Songzhi has got you covered. With translations by me, you can now read what they wrote about Wu. I do not think anyone has translated the entirety of Volume 48, so I consider myself the first. My translations are not perfect, so don't cite this in your school essay. Ask me for anything for clarification and I will try to help you.
I originally wanted to post it as one long Tumblr "essay" but it won't let me so here are the links to where I have them.

I apologize for my hiatus. I don't think I can post content regularly but I felt like this deserved to be shared with you all.

Tom: I've been reading this book about ancient China, Greg. What do you know about Cao Cao and Guan Yu?
Greg: Uh, I'm not familiar...
Tom: Cao Cao was a warlord around the fall of the Han dynasty. Cruel but brilliant. He trusted no one, Greg. He said, "I would rather betray the whole world than have the world betray me." Well, Cao Cao captures Guan Yu, an enemy general, and finds himself enamored with him. Becomes a little obsessed. You see, Cao Cao thought he could never trust anyone, because no one is truly loyal. That's how he's lived his life. Everyone cutting each other down and climbing over the corpses. But here is Guan Yu, a skilled warrior in his own right, but loyal to a fault, and kind of pure of heart in a way Cao Cao isn't but maybe wishes he could be. Guan Yu has sworn his loyalty to Liu Bei, a sanctimonious prick who takes him for granted - the kind of guy who would promise to buy him a watch and then not do it.
Greg: I don't like the sound of this Liu Bei, Tom.
Tom: Don't interrupt. Anyway, Cao Cao deeply respects Guan Yu, so he's not going to keep him prisoner forever - but he wants him to want to stay. He tries to buy his affection by impressing him with his extravagant wealth. Tries to convince him he's a good guy at heart. Even gives him Red Hare, the fastest horse in the world, as a gift. A gift, Greg. It looks desperate.
Greg: Wow. Guan Yu must have been really grateful, though. I would be. Fastest horse in the world, imagine what you could do with that.
Tom: You could travel really fast - obviously. Anyway, Guan Yu is very grateful, even awed. Cao Cao isn't the monster he thought he was. By the end of their time together, he actually believes Cao Cao to be more honorable than... maybe Liu Bei. Maybe everyone. But Guan Yu swore his loyalty to someone else, so he leaves. The very thing Cao Cao loved about him is the thing that takes him away.
Greg: Sounds sad.
Tom: Hold onto your little hat, Greg, because it's going to get worse.
Xiliang Alliance Army
When Cao Cao’s conquest of the north and various gains and losses in the south reach the ears of those who still consider themselves independent (When it suits them), a coalition of western warlords in Liang Province band together, a surge of misguided nationalism masking their own personal ideals and interests. Led by the brutish Ma Teng, the sly Han Sui and the mysterious Zhang Lu, they intend to march upon Chang’an, sowing fear in Han and Wei, few forgetting how many were lost the first time Liang Province fell to lawlessness.
