Sansiveria in bloom!
Flowering sansiveria trifasciata.
It is a really pretty contrast with the delicate, ethereal white flowers and the sturdy, thick, dark leaves. The scent is sweet and strong, reminding me of jasmine.
The flowers open at night, and the scent increases in strength towards the evening.
I have read that sansiveria plants flower when stressed, which might be true since being a potted plant is a bit stressful in itself. For me, it seems mostly to be connected to the age of the plant. I have had several older plants that have regularly flowered in the spring for many years.
I love seeing the flowers, but I don’t really like strong scents, so it is a mixed blessing whenever they flower. 😅
This is an interesting cultivar, with much thicker and shorter leaves than the regular sansiverias. I have got it as a gift, so I’m not sure of which variety it is, maybe dwarf laurentii. If anyone has an idea, I’d be happy to hear it. ☺️
