“Lemony Snicket,” an expression which here means, “I am dreadfully overwhelmed.”

First Job
JOB TITLE: Camp Counselor JOB LOCATION: Charlotte, North Carolina SPAN: During the summers between the ages of 15-17 PAY: $12 an hour HOW HE GOT THE JOB: Seeing an ad in the newspaper needing camp counselors for the summer Anthony called the number that was listed as he went in for an interview. The interview process wasn't hard as they asked each applicant a series of questions on how they dealt with stressful situations and what they would do in certain situations. Being a team player was very important and Anthony always considered himself a team player, working well with others. They also asked a series of questions about how well the applicant worked well with children. There were behavioral questions addressed in the interview as well, dealing with how well the applicant dealt with conflicts and how they would handle arguments. If the applicant passed the first stage of the interview process they moved onto the second stage which was working with children first hand and how the children worked well with the applicant. JOB DESCRIPTION: Working at the camp for the summers Anthony was required to make and implicant lesson plans to be turned in each week to his bosses. The lesson plans included snacks and lunches as well as if the children were going to go on hikes that week. Anthony came up with fin and interactive activities for the children as he wanted them up and moving around getting to know their peers. Towards the middle of summer Anthony had the children in the water, canoeing and campfires on the nights when they could stay the night, getting the parents' permission. With the job came cooking making lunches and breakfasts when asked. Cleaning of the canoes and the wakeboards is something Anthony did on occasion as he enjoyed running the camp when he got the opportunity. He liked stepping up and showing people what he was capable of doing wanting more responsible. WHY HE LEFT THE JOB: Working at the camp over the summers was something Anthony enjoyed, but when it came to starting the next chapter in his life he took the opportunity. The summer after high school graduation was the first summer Anthony didn't work at the camp as he was getting ready to head to Harvard and start college. Anthony thought he would be able to work at the camp but it would have been too much as he wanted to focus on starting Harvard and spending the summer with his family and friends as much as he could.
