a palette of love poems
celadon -
moss under the water in june. heart beating out like ripples. i see you. i name you and you are. beautiful. i name you and you are. beloved. i see you. i name you. you are good.
hickory -
barefoot races over heat-cracked earth that ends in dark places. i want to get dirty together. i want to lick along the lines of you and taste smoke and salt.
parakeet -
sing of spring and the green that rushes in overnight when the frost moves back. quickstep feet that leave behind a blooming outline of what might one day be. might we be?
aegean -
i look at you and my mouth fills with copper and saltwater. i look at you and find it hard to breathe. i look at you and i swear on the sea that i will never stop looking.
iris -
blueberry pancakes and vanilla milk tea on a sunday afternoon. rosemary bread with fresh churned butter. let me cook for you, eat my love. eat until your belly is full and your heart is light. let me cook for you.
arsenic -
your soul is in the naming of it. your color is all the shadows where i like to rest from the heat of the sun and the hot of the day. you gather in the spaces where the dirt and cement meet and even if you are a poison, which i know you think you are but i still live in doubt of, i’ll gladly die from you.
zaffre -
a vibrancy i can only look at in moments, you exist so wonderfully loud. you exist and beat your feet against the earth to the rhythm of the song of your making. you thrum with the soul of it and i am here and you are there and i am here.
sinoper -
red baked earth and timothy grass. whitewashed fences and a triangle ringing me home across the hayfield. you ring me home. and then we remain and we linger here together. sinoper and silver as the day turns to dusk. we remain.
pervenche -
we’ll lay in the meadow by the river with our feet in until our toes get cold. we’ll count the clouds and name them love. we’ll be there and we’ll be there together and that’s what i hold on to. we’ll be there and we’ll be there together. even if we aren’t right now.
incarnadine -
you’re the crunch of october leaves that ground me. you’re the smell of the year leaving that i want to press between the pages of a dictionary so i always remember. you’re dancing down the air outside of my window and i wish that i was with you - so i touch the glass. you land on the sidewalk and i rush outside to pick you up. i wish that i was with you, small and ruddy. incarnadine - what do you wish for?
calamine -
old books and white pages and fresh paper and new thoughts. thread and silver needles stitching. creating. creator. created. what will you find tomorrow? what will you learn in november? what will you be by july?
heather -
a fairy tale of muted purple, you are beyond touch. ephemeral and warm. you exist at the edges of reality and shimmer in the light of the moon. i can’t reach you but i want to. i can’t reach you but you are seen.
gingerline -
you’re a laugh that i have to follow. you’re the good part of the weekend, before you remember monday is coming. you glow.
razzmatazz -
i like the way you taste in my mouth. i like the shape of you on my tongue. razzmatazz - a celebration. a desire for more beauty in the world. razzmatazz - i lick you up like syrup. razzmatazz - i swallow you down whole.
malachite -
soft like summer at the end of things. cool as the day when it is finally becoming autumn. i want to wear you like a ring. long grass twisted into a promise. i’ll give you mine and you’ll give me yours and we’ll walk home together hand in grass-twisted hand.
gamboge -
i know you want to be black, but your love is too bright. it fills and i feel it like the sun. you aren’t a night without the moon, you’re high noon. you feel and you are and you feel and you are and i love you, too. i love you, too.
amaranth -
i believe in you. vapors and all. i know what shape you take and i believe. you’re book-pressed old memories in a variant spine. you’re multitudes and when the world forgets - i won’t. i do and will remember.
mulberry -
i wrap myself in the scent of you. i wear you like a pearl. i am what you are and you are what i am. i haven’t eaten you - not yet. but i will, i will. i will know what you taste like, i will dive in deep.
