For a school under siege by some mysterious assailant that was freezing its attendants into solid statues, there was far more of an air of levity about the campus than Mitama had anticipated. It made blending in all the more easier, when there was nerves but not suspicion about its numbers
The magic in question was unheard of to Mitama. She wondered perhaps if it veered more into the avenue of curses than casual spells. She had hoped to investigate some of the victims and see if there was anything about them that she may be able to parse, but had found that many of their group had already flocked their way there. Not wanting to arouse suspicion, she had decided it was best to put her efforts elsewhere and see what may be discovered.
It was gossip passing from one student to another that had alerted her to the event coming to pass in the courtyard. While Mitama knew pride ran a vicious streak in her, she had been content to simply let things pass and try to get through this with as little attention on her person as possible that her pink hair and star eyes could afford her (if one more person asked to study her eyes, she was going to scream).
And then she saw Sara and Julius in the courtyard intending to participate and while she was sure that Sara was a perfectly nice girl who she knew nothing about, she could not stand it if Julius somehow won and she had to listen to his hemming and hawing.
“Simply hit the target, yes?” She asked to one of the students organizing the affair. What a joke. Targets much like those used for archery were lined up at the far end of the courtyard. She supposed for those lacking practical experience, this was a good a test as any, but she could not help but feel a bit disappointed as she rolled up the sleeves of the uncomfortable new uniform.
“Yep, easy as that! Oh, but wait...” The mage gives a wave of their hand and soon enough the targets begin to shift and move about their line, making for harder to hit moving targets. Mitama raised an eyebrow. Fair enough...that was a far bit more impressive for a magic school than stationary targets. “Alright, whenever you’re ready.”
Valaura is a familiar flare of light around her hands by now as she launches the spell immediately upon being given the go ahead. It makes contact with a bobbing target and erupts in a display of light, crackling bright across the courtyard. There’s a pause before a few noises of approval and some cheers breaks out from some of the onlookers and Mitama cannot deny the bit of smug pride that breaks through at that.
Thank the dawn the fates were generous today. Mitama turns back to her two fellow Academy students and grins. “I hope I did not set expectations too high for you all.”
