Oh, no. This poor, poor excuse of a man. He’d fallen right into the easiest of traps, the oldest of tricks, and he hadn’t even realized! He went on and on with his explanation as if she needed anything more to entice her following. Still, she wanted to defeat that idea ( no matter how true and grounded on absolute reality it was ) that Republican-leaning journalists were only after a headline and not the truth. She just wasn’t interested in his truth. She’d seen more than enough. “You don’t think, if Bell were to win, he’d be able to stay in office for four years?” she repeated after him althought, yes, admittedly, she shaped the meaning of his words to her own personal interest. Ugh, Democrats were always jumping at people’s throats with the same signs that they always held: more gun control! More abortions! More whatever other nonesense! Yet, the failed to remember that their precious laws didn’t do what they said they wanted them to do. “I’m sorry to interrupt you, Representative, but,” I’m not, “Congress is responsible for passing those laws you mentioned on the national level,” so maybe go do your job? “And we live in a Republic, with three separate powers, and the President isn’t the one who deals with state regulations.” Fine, she may have stolen that from someone else and gotten her sentences mixed up, but who cared if that was true? Federalism was a blessing, anyway. “I’m not here to change your mind on anything,” because I know how to pick my battles, maybe you could learn a thing or two from me, “I was simply asking for an elected Representative’s opinion.” Her tone screamed but if you think you’re too good for me… “You’ve made that perfectly clear,” she assured him with a toothy grin and the best, friendliest face she could muster up. “I wouldn’t want to keep you longer than you have, Congressman,” she pointed out, nodding her head towards her wristwatch ( yes, she’s classy, not about to sink down to an Apple Watch or some nonesense ).
Charlie raised their eyebrows, confused more than anything. “I think Bell and Sanford would last four years in office, I just don’t think it would be a productive four years,” they said, repeating their statement. They recognized the game Sarah was playing, but knew it was different than what happened in the walls of congress. “There may be three levels of government, but the president can very easily change the entire dynamic of how Congressional meetings work and run,” they said, straightforward and to the point. They felt like they were over-explaining, but it wasn’t in Charlie to let it slide and let someone believe they were right. Thanks, Mom, they thought, knowing exactly who taught them how to stand their ground verbally. They took a deep breath. “Do me a favour, Ms. Modrick, and don’t misgender me in your article.”
