Saraide | Lady of the Lake’s Handmaiden | Emily Browning | Open
“If I know nothing of my past and my own history is foreign to me, then what can I do and where can I go to finally find my answers?”
Saraide was born near the island of Avalon, to one of the younger priestesses. Her mother died while giving birth to her, and so the child was taken care of by the whole society for a couple of years. When she was ten years old, she was chosen by the lady of the lake, Viviane, to come with her and become her handmaiden. The young girl who always loved discovering new things, saw this as an adventure and the day she joined lady Viviane's retinue, she made herself a promise that she would try her very best to learn from her new mistress to tame the hints of magic she could feel flowing in her veins.
She became friends with the lady's foster son Galahad and the two could have often be seen running around making mischief. She always remembered her place, though, and was ready to assist her mistress whenever she called. Saraide is a very fast learner and thanks to that, lady Viviane’s wisdom and her enormous library, the young girl soon learned how to use the little magic she possessed. Her skills are nothing when compared to Viviane’s, but she is proud of the little she can do. She also possesses the gift of listening, so whatever is happening around the castle, she is one of the first to know.
The one mystery Saraide did not yet manage to crack, is the one of her father. No one has ever talked about him in her presence, and every time she raised the question to the priestesses when she was young, it was quickly brushed off without an explanation. Saraide is naturally curious and even though she is eternally grateful to the priestesses and lady Viviane for taking such a good care of her when she was a child, she thrives to know where she came from. Perhaps in Camelot, she could find some clues that would lead her to the answers she is looking for.
Further Development: Unbeknownst to Saraide, her father is closer than she could have imagined. The infamous Prince Maleagant secretly had an affair with a priestess named Rhonwen many years ago. From their brief union Saraide was born, but after her mother’s death her father’s identity was buried to protect Saraide.
