I wonder if ikuhara knows about the concept of polyamory because the animes he made after utena opened so much branches for possible polycules it is really funny
Fandom really did turn on Ikuhara because his stories got too morally grey and anticapitalist / youth liberatory, and his characters after Utena started getting too scary and Vriskaesque while still getting narrative empathy. its astounding. peoples disgust responses/moral outrage completely shutting off their brains critical thinking skills.
If you think Ringo Oginome or Yuri Tokikago are irredeemable monsters then you'd just be another sword staked into Anthy at Ohtori. If anything Tabuki deserves way more flack that goes ignored because misogyny but oops Penguindrum demands that you care about him too.
If you think Touga or Kanba are just shitty men to be written off you are not paying attention to how hopelessly the world has entrapped them via power and capital, or how desperate they are to find something better (and also be women, which is half of why Kazukis so good lol)
