The ghosts are louder than usual today

had an idea that despite how much he aims to be above his failures in his last life, he’s still beating himself down and hard, especially after losing most of his team in wow. its a quiet battle in his own head, you couldn’t tell if you were looking at him he’d just seem really contemplative

Something interesting I noticed while looking at as many images as I feasibly can with Quaritch in them is his scars! I am no dermatologist and my physiological understanding of the body only extends from my interest in sports science and year 12 biology, but scar wise... are they hypertrophic scarring?

I know it's probably a thing with the make-up department and it's budget or something, but I find it interesting that they are raised and it really reminded me of that scarring type. It's practically when your body over does the wound with collagen, but not to the extent keloid scarring does (which goes outside of the wounds boundaries)

Caravaggio and Reclamation with Quaritch (ramble ahead)

I noticed it in the second movie and I'm unsure if anyone else has drawn these same comparisons, but the scene kept reminding me of Daredevil season 2 promo and it was all thematic to Caravaggio's works, but one particular poster was in reference to image 1, David with the head of Goliath.

Stephen Lang pitched this particular direction with the scene, where Quaritch goes out to find how he became what he is now, aka, how he died and the more Hamlet take on it. The 'to be or not to be, that is the question'. It is such a fantastic idea, and I'm forever grateful they kept it

But, for a new perspective of it, I draw to you this!

This particular piece has had many interpretations over the years and a lot of it is drawn on the fact it is Caravaggio's head that is Goliath and the model for David is of Caravaggio's assistant who reflected his youth. That sort of reflection of your, at the time, present self having their head severed by a younger version of yourself is to put it simply pretty heavy. I've always seen it as your youth stepping in to see what life you carved since and it reclaiming itself from your own maturity and life choices. I see a pensive disappointment, but the feelings so strong you can't not respond.

With Recom Quaritch, while he still retains his old memories, the history and ≈50 years of life, he exists in a younger version of himself. Not human, sure, but still young. A young version who has the power to see what went wrong and a new outlook to his existence. The skull represents his mistakes of the past, old and withered. Especially to how he treated the Battle of Ayram Alusìng and his gravitational failure. The scars along the skull are reflective of his old identity, and Recom Quaritch does not hold that same weight.

He is unburdened by them, juxtaposing how human Quaritch was, which gives him a choice. The choice over what pathway he follows/carves for himself. The need to reclaim the title of Colonel Miles Quaritch, and what that might mean next. The whole time he watched the footage and especially when he looked truly eye to eye with himself, it held that same pensive gaze. His ears pinned back, his nose trying not to crease like how his eyebrows twitched to knit tighter. All he can do is look sullen at himself. That older, defeated self.

Then of course, he crushes that skull with a singular hand. The powder of bone sifting through his fingers to the ground, he makes no attempt at holding onto this history. He will not be burdened by it. By that older version of himself and its scars. He doesn't wear that. That is him reacting so he can reclaim himself. To not be defined by that.

......... kinda wanna draw it now :') I've only tried baroque once for another fandom and it was just a portrait, so hopefully ill cook
