Monday, June 20, 2011- First Day in Phnom Penh- Chloe
Today we adventured around the city. Tat and I woke up around 6 which is a good time considering we're basically on opposite time zones, and we fell asleep early yesterday from all day traveling exhaustion. Anyways, we went out in the city today which was amazing. We walked for a very long time, and tried to get some material for the films we'll be compiling soon. It's strange being in another country, it's like a whole new planet, and EVERYONE stares at us. I guess because we're white and young, but it's ridiculous, we even get people asking to take our picture. It's an amazing country but it's poverty is scary, and the random spurts of wealth is shocking. You'll see a blind woman begging on the streets right next to a brand new Lexus. We ate at some strange pizza place way to early (miami time, *sigh*), but it's no Chow King. What's Chow Kind you ask? Well... apparently in the Philippines last year they found an amazing fast food asian bistro called Chow King, and we've been searching for something similar.. so the quest for the next Chow King continues. We tried videoing, but the people here aren't exactly the friendliest, but i mean... who can blame them? Half the time i have no idea where we are so thank god for Dea, she's been keepin' us out of trouble & getting lost. We interviewed a lil girl who was selling scarves on the street today, she was barefoot and clad in a cute lil pink dress, which was far from clean. She spoke english well, and we got some great shots, soon to be uploaded. We also went to the official museum and it was so beautiful, the most peaceful place in the entire world, i've honestly never been anywhere that beautiful, and it made me so happy to be apart of this trip. I felt very at peace, and there was great lighting so we got some awesome shots for the films.
so far it's been an amazing experience, and i guess im getting used to the stares.. it was just greatly unexpected. Everyone at the hotel is lovely, and i beat Tat at UNO... again.
well that's all for now..
