i never write her as particularly religious, even after she found out that Mythal was alive, in some sense, but man oh man she is MAD at Solas

Saskia was taught a lot of magical theory, and Elvhen history growing up because her Father was the First to Clan Lavellan before he died, and the Keeper hoped that she would develop magic as well. She never did, but after Deshanna became the Keeper Saskia kept collecting stories about their history and was slowly writing down the variations in them before she was sent to the Conclave.

What a neat idea :3 She must be very knowledgable for a non mage then. I take it creating a written record of their history was very important to her?

Ashanna was sent to the conclave for two reasons primarily; first as a test of leadership. Two clan scouts went with her to report back to Deshanna, that both died in the explosion that leveled the temple. The second reason she was sent was so that the Clan elders could meet and discuss her role in the clan. She was not seen as fit to lead their clan in any capacity, and only Deshanna argued otherwise on her behalf. 

Having both scouts die, and seeing her get pulled into this human religious organization was a very bad thing, in the eyes of Clan Lavellan. She was too much like her traitor father. They decided it was ultimately better to be rid of her, and a power struggle ensued to get Deshanna to step down as keeper.
