Privacy in the work place
How much privacy online should we have in our workplace? In my own opinion I think there is a place and time for everything and the workplace is not the adequate place to search, email, or do your dirty laundry. Work places and work devices are for meant for work purposes only. With the amount of hackers there is and the type of very important information a work computer/cellphone can contain, employers need to make sure they are protected. The employer has every right to contain any information his employees. The website below is a good source of information of what your employer has access to and what they do to protect you and themselves. Depending on your workplace and what you do you may be more monitored than you think.

Digital Divide
Before reading the article on digital divide, I didn’t know how big of an issue this was. Being someone who has access to the internet daily and has computer access all around, I did not realize there was so many areas impacted by not having internet access. The gap between underprivileged American’s access to internet and the access middle class society and the wealthy have is something that should be improving but in fact it is only getting bigger. In the article below it talks about the three major factors to this digital divide. Education, income, and race all play part of the digital division. It is proven that individuals with higher education such as college are more likely to have access to internet at work than those who don’t get a college education. Income is a big factor as well telecommunication facilities are not as worried in the areas with poverty and getting them faster internet. They are more focused on being available for the wealthy who are more willing to pay top dollar for faster internet. There are many things that can be done about this. One that I find important is supporting community access centers and opening more of those up, so those individuals with less chances to have access have a better opportunity on getting internet.

I think social media is detrimental to our society. It causes us to be taken away from our current life and causes so many other problems. According to pdresources.org, “ On average the participants used social media a total of 61 minutes per day and visited various social media accounts 30 times per week. More than a quarter of the participants were classified as having “high” indicators of depression. “ This is a scary amount of time we spend on our phones. I strongly believe there is a high correlation between depression and social media. People are seeing stuff online so often that makes them sad or they compare themselves to others and that causes them to be depressed.https://www.pdresources.org/blog_data/social-media-linked-to-depression-in-young-people/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-c_iBRChARIsAGCOpB3MGlTbT9-B7mAN0RrNyMuGyCxPc_k6ha0hfn_Vuc4wwRQ_jNWhK2kaAg-JEALw_wcB#.V786WSgrKUk
Social Media & News
How much of the news that you see on social media do you believe? I get about 95% of my news off social media, especially Facebook. I’m not one to read the newspaper often or get up and watch the news. They tend to upset me and not feel like a good start to my morning. An article I read mentioned that 62% of adults get all their news off social media (1). Although, I end up finding everything out through social media, I also know not believe everything I read. If I see something that interests me or something that I’m sketchy about, I do further research and start reading articles and get the full story. Unfortunately, not everything on Facebook is legit or it’s highly biased. Another article that I read mentioned that Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter were the top 3 sources of news for adults. I’ve noticed from personal experience some of the “news articles” that are on social media are ads that don’t hold any content. You click on a link thinking you are going to read an article based on the title of the article and you end up scrolling through 4-5 pages and never get the full story.

How parents can help kids resist the pressure created by artfully curated social media feeds and the constant connection in the modern world.
This is and interesting read, social media is a way for us to make a false identity through showing people the highlights of our lives. Social media has distanced us from real relationships such as one on one connections with or friends and family. This is meaning that we now relay on the acceptance of the masses through social media, rather then caring about the opinions of those involved in our lives such as friends family and coworkers. The issues with the younger generations is that they will base there worth on there popularity on these social sites. They will spend time and excessive amount of effort to post the perfect picture or saying, and base there own worth on the amount of attention it gets. And because we have this desire to get acceptance we create a false version of our self's to make us appear more interesting and creative then we really are. This has cased us to start hating our self’s because we know that though social media we are living a lie, and it leaves us with this desire to be this unrealistic person that we have crated for our self's.
