Sweet dreams are made of this {Darcy&Emma}
Don’t give me that accusing look. What would you prefer ? Sleep ?
The blonde looked closely at her reflection in the body-length mirror of her white, almost carefully sanitized room, narrowing her eyes slightly as she readjusted her short, revealing Alexander McQueen dress. For a slip second, her gaze slid of focus, and she closed her eyes harshly, trying to blur the image of the mental institution that just started to form in front of her eyes out of her head, to make it fade to black. Seeing the details only getting more precise, Emma Frost slowly opened her eyes and blinked a few time, shaking it all away. She was still standing alone, in a room empty of life. She had made it another day. Another bloody day performing the art of survival 101, pretending everything was just perfect. Her lips were all too used to lying that it was already mechanical and after she would have repeated to the world she was feeling fabulous enough, she would herself forget she did not believe it in the first place. It was a trick the blonde had learned long ago, how to lie to oneself.
Of course, sleep was not an option. Sleep would mean taking the risk of letting the nightmares come back, and she had had enough of them last night. Besides, after a day spent in a mansion full of hypocrites, innocent sheep not understanding her oh-so-ironic position and not caring about any of this, the telepath deserved some indulgence. Right when she was slowly starting to get better, everything in this place went back to making her sick after the recent events - The awful people, the horrendous food, the sickening sense of morality. She was only here because she had very little other options, all seemingly worse than the school she reminded herself, and because teaching was an important part of her life. And the perfect place to forget the stupidity and hypocrisy of the sheep was amongst wolves, she had decided. Maybe it was time for her to make her big, scintillating come back into the active ranks of the Hellfire Club. Maybe all this story had taught her was that she would never find her place in the puny and restricted world of the X-Men. She would never be good – Even when she tried, life took it upon itself to remind her this was perfectly impossible for her, shattering her to pieces in order to teach her a lesson. Next time, you won’t try so hard to reform. It only leads to a disaster.
The blonde had also determined being an X-Men was not a prerequisite to being a teacher here. Sure, playing heroes in spandex in a world that hated and feared them was amusing, but it got rather old after a while, she decided – No matter how much it felt like doing the right thing. And maybe this was simply another one of those lies she told herself, but Emma could live with that. She could perfectly teach young mutants here while her allegiances would lie elsewhere.
The blonde grabbed her lipstick, applying it smoothly before giving one last, long look in the mirror. It was not a betrayal if there was nothing to betray. And even if there were, why would she have to be the one who cared? Repressing the negative thoughts, the reminders of why everything was a widely bad idea, and the shaking of her hands, Emma Frost grabbed her bag and locked her door. Of course, everyone in the Hellfire Club probably wanted her head on a platter – Everyone that mattered anyway – but it still left her an undeniable advantage – She was coming to them. One night was all she needed to try to get what happened out of her brain, to block the thoughts, the pain… To block everything. She needed it all to go away – How she could not stand Jean’s presence anymore, how everything kept replaying in her head, how she had foolishly let herself being used, how she despised Scott for this and how she could not stand herself anymore. It still counted as facing her problems, after all – She was fighting ghosts, things that never were, and the easiest way to get rid of them was to try to move on, no matter how impossibly painful this process was. She needed it all to go away, because she simply could not afford to have to deal with them on here own, while the whole world was waiting for her downfall. She could not afford to be pathetic. And what would work best than the sharpened gaze of the wolves to force her to get even stronger, tougher than before?
The blonde got into the limousine she had ordered, trying to push back the flood of thoughts and feelings that was once more trying to overwhelm her. Emotions were childlike, she decided.
After a while, the blonde finally arrived close to the Victorian-style building, getting out of her vehicle.
“I’ll walk.” She coldly stated to her driver, not caring in the slightest. Whatever means she used to make her grand entrance, it would still be unexpected enough for people to only care about the fact that she was here.
A second of hesitation as she saw the building’s shape getting more precise in New-York’s night sky was all it took for a familiar voice to rise behind her. Darcy.
“Darcy, dear. Ever the innovative person, I see. Whatever are you doing in Manhattan at this hour of the night, darling?” She asked, more for politeness than out of genuine interest, spinning on her heels. Kurt would have possibly recognized this as fate, telling her she should not go back to the Hellfire Club. However, there was no such thing as fate.
