Sassy.
It’s June y’all! And guess what that means... we’re celebrating PRIDE for this month’s Target First Saturdays. In the spirit of our special exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women 1965-85, we’ll be honoring past & present queer identities for a radically more inclusive future for all. We’re extremely excited to be getting an extra set of hands from our teens in the LGBTQ Teen Night Planning Committee who will introduce some of our fabulous artists and performers for the evening. Highlights for the night include performances by artists such as the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus starting at 5pm, the kick-off to our month-long Black Queer Brooklyn on Film series at 7:30 pm, intergeneral hands-on-art activities from 6-8pm, and the New York City Legacy Ball hosted by Father Syd UltraOmni from 7-10pm.
But there’s even more!
Tarab NYC hosts a screening and discussion with queer Arab filmmakers.
Get an in depth look into our special exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965-85 from Rujeko Hockley, former Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art.
As part of the Black Queer Brooklyn on Film series, D’hana Perry and Taja Lindley perform their original works.
SassyBlack fills the Glass Pavilion with a mix of electronic, soul and funk music, before handing it off to Tamar-Kali who delivers melodic rock centered on her soulful voice.
Stop by our Community Resource Fair to link up with organizations such as the Audre Lorde Project, Health and Education Alternatives for Teens (HEAT), Brooklyn Pride, and more.
Be moved by the inspiring words of Cave Canem poets.
Catch Pop-Up talks about works of art by LGBTQ artists led by our very own teens in the Museum Apprentice Program.
Bring a friend, a date, your family… see you on June 3rd!
