Why I love SasuBoru...
... despite not gaf for the entirety of Boruto: because it's so deliciously complex and multifaceted.
I think most of us will agree that Naruto's youthful obsession with Sasuke is a given, whether you consider it romantic/sexual or not. I personally like to consider it as such, though perhaps Naruto didn't quite realise that's what it was, and by the time he did, it was too late--he married Hinata, had kids, he's a thoroughly moral person who will not cheat on his wife.
Sasuke, meanwhile, married Sakura because he felt she deserved it for all that she did for him. She deserved having her wish fulfilled. Sasuke didn't mind either way, he loved her, though not romantically (but romance never mattered much to him anyway). He had been a little in love with Naruto despite himself, because Naruto was overbearing like a scorching sun and Sauske hated, still hated, the feeling of being limited, controlled, boxed in--but it was also comforting in a way, it made him feel cared for, because it was the kind of love he'd gotten from Itachi--before the latter bid him a final goodbye, flipping their entire dynamic on its head--the overbearing, suffocating love of someone who thinks they know what's best for you and will force you to take it. Sasuke eventually grew out of needing to be loved this way, even though it was painful and felt like he was giving up half his soul.
Then Boruto comes along, wanting Sasuke to train him, and he's so similar to a young Naruto but he's also got Hinata's softness, and he looks at Sasuke not as someone to overcome, to fight, to subdue, but someone to respect, defer to, to worship, to get to know without trying to change him. And slowly, Boruto's hero-worship for Sasuke turns romantic, erotic, and it's both similar but oh-so-different to what Sasuke got from Naruto. It's much more like how Itachi loved him at the end--unconditional acceptance and support.
Of course, Sasuke waivers. He tries to evade, to redirect Boruto, but all that does is make Boruto miserable and withdrawn in a way that is painfully familiar to Sasuke. And eventually, Sasuke caves. He makes sure to keep the relationship secret because it would hurt the people they both love. It's not a we'll-get-married-and-live-together kind of relationship anyway. It's something just for the two of them.
And deep down, it's a big fat 'fuck you' to Naruto. Because Naruto once craved Sasuke's attention and Sasuke didn't give it to him (it was taken by force), but now Sasuke willingly gives it to Boruto, in ways he never gave it to Naruto.
And also, because Naruto was an absent father, and he will never be able to fix that no matter how he may try now. Now, Boruto doesn't want his attention anymore--he wants Sasuke's attention, he got it as a kid and now he's getting a different kind of attention that Naruto can't ever compete with.
