SAT II Math Notes?
So I jut finished taking my SAT IIs for math, it was very hard, I want to cry, I honestly have no idea how I did and I’m just hoping for the best. Anyway, while studying, I did a whole bunch of practice tests and also took notes. It’s a short two page study guide and I’m willing to scan and post it here if people are interested in using it. So yeah, please tell me what you think!
Hey! Congrats on your 750 on the bio subject test!! I'm thinking about taking it so can you could tell me a bit about how you studied for it? :)
Thank you so much! I’m far from a studyblr (I basically never study ever), but for standardized testing I held myself to a strict study schedule! I had taken AP Biology the year I took the SAT II in Biology M (in fact I took it in May which was one week before the AP exam). I had been studying for the AP test while studying for the SAT II. That probably had some impact, but I don’t think it did because the SAT II in Biology E/M is VERY different from the AP curriculum. Since that difference is now on the table, here’s how I studied:
1) Barron’s SAT Subject Test Biology E/M: best boon ever. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
1) Decide whether you want to take E or M now. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF THE EXAM. So many of my friends decided to check both E and M on the day of the test and wasted way too much time. Some went in thinking they would take M but chose E on the day of the test and didn’t do as well as they hoped. (You need to know both environmental and molecular biology on both tests, just a smaller proportion based on the one you choose).
2) Luckily for me, Biochemistry/Molecular Biology was my best topic all year so those 20 questions I didn’t need to worry about too much but definitely make sure you familiarize yourself most with the 20E or 20M questions first.
3) My main study technique: HIGHLIGHTING. I read the chapters of Barron’s and highlighted anything I didn’t know. The SAT II is very much about factual recall. I had like 2 critical thinking questions out of all 80.
4) Remember things you didn’t already know. Best tip: stuff your brain. What’re mychorrizae? What is secondary structure of a protein? What does a ribosome do?
5) Don’t overthink. They won’t ask “why are mychorrizae important to plant functionality?” They’ll ask you to match organelles to their basic function (and usually textbook definitions. Ex: mitochondria: produce ATP for the cell). The questions can get specific, but not anything that requires thinking. I felt I either knew an answer, or I didn’t: no in between.
OVERVIEW:1) Barron’s (any edition)2) Choose E/M and familiarize yourself with the format. 3) Highlight what you don’t know4) Memorize basic facts5) Don’t overthink
Hope this helps!
sat subject test help!
i need your guys help! so the registration date of the oct 3 sat subject tests has passed and ill have to pay $80 to sign up late as opposed to the regular $50. my early action schools either dont require subject tests or well excuse if you dont have them sent in by the deadline (nov 1). i would be taking 3 tests: chinese, english literature and most likely math 2 (which i NEED to study for). do you guys think i should take all 3 tests in november (chinese is only offered in november). or bite the bullet with the money and take them in october?
