I think the mission rekindled a small amount of their old rivalry, but instead of using that energy against each other, Mira and Erza use that energy to better each other.  They start to do sparring matches together and bonding.  It reminded Erza how much she loved having someone to fight against that could match her in strength and ferocity.  Not to mention, more girl power which always brings a smile to Erza’s face.  It amazes Erza just how well Mira falls back into place on the battlefield once more and how well their battle chemistry is.  It makes Erza wonder just how far Mira would have come had she kept up fighting.  Had Lisana not “died” and Mira not changed to a softer natured girl.  It almost scares Erza, the power that Mira has and the thought of what could be.
