#partly a joke post partly. idk.#not to get too introspective on main but this summer especially feels like The Summer Of Shit I Started And Will Never Finish #and on one level i don't like that about myself. i want to be the kind of person who can commit to things. who makes plans and follows them #i can do so many things! very shittily. i can bind a passable sketchbook i can whittle a passable spoon i can spin a passable skein #i can play 3-4 songs on the piano i can blockprint a decent christmas card i can draw a decent sketch and write a decent fic #but i can do no one thing *well.* it's slowly driving me insane.#and on the one hand i genuinely don't like that i can't stick to an exercise schedule or finish this stupid fucking quenya course under my #own willpower. i *want* to have the kind of focus needed to actually learn to excel at One Specific Thing and i clearly Don't.#on the other hand. idk. self-control is a fruit of the spirit. but also this is all shit i'm doing for fun in my downtime. so. idk.#did god just make me a dabbler and i gotta make peace with that? i feel like i Should be able to say 'i'm gonna finish xyz' and do it.#is that arrogance? if intellectually i know i'm loved for no work of my own. am i allowed to want to be capable of certain works for my own #satisfaction?#i made a paper crane for a friend's kid during church today and he liked it. is that enough even if i never learn real fancy origami?#idk. whatever. dabbling may not be as productive as the protestant work ethic grindset but at least it beats angsting on tumblr #so i'm gonna at least trade up one step on this particular ladder of pointlessness and go work on my stupid little fic i guess 👍

I had read night watch more than any other book. It is my favourite novel out of all I have read. Yet only 60 seconds ago, whilst listening to the audiobook yet again, did I realise that captain swing says “don’t let me detain you” to Vimes. I don’t know how to feel about this discovery.
