It's hard to describe, how they looked. The color was nothing. What color is rain?  

They were like smoke. No. Have you ever seen a murmuration of starlings? Like that. 

The sound I can peg: dry leaves skittering and swirling on pavement. 

They picked our bones clean.

My eyes opened to motes of dust lazily drifting in a ray of buttery sunlight falling from a small square of perfect blue sky far above. The chambers were immense, shadows dark, cool stone cut to geometric precision.
