What I brought to theory tonight. @katsunumajyozo_winery_official branca (white). From Yamanashi prefecture. Home of Mt. Fuji. The grape is Koshu. Native to Japan. Goes back about 1000 years. It’s origin is a vitis vinifera grape from possible the Caucuses region near the Caspian Sea. No one knows what variety however. It crossed with an Asian vinifera in China while being traded along the Silk Road. It was a table grape until about 140 years ago. Much of the viticulture happens in the Mt. Fuji area. Pergola is the normal trellis system. ABV is rarely over 12% and is a dry wine. Similar to a muscadet wine. I really can’t find it in the States. And where I did find it it was pretty pricy. I got this as a reward for volunteering at a wine event earlier this year. I have their sparkling wine too. If you have the chance to try this, do it. Much better showing today. I didn’t quite finish on time. Nailed wine 3, called Chianti on 4, I’ll take as a win. Wine 6 was a complete miss. The rest I had the correct wine in initial. Wine 7 bonus wine. Myself and one other called chenin. But if I was going to call chard I would have called meursault. Wine 3 I called middle mosel.
