Midge and Lenny on an awkward double date
"Shall I kill Susie or would you like the honor?"
Midge sighs softly as she and Lenny wait for their companions for the night. They're late, and she's hungry, and her whiskey sour is not doing the trick.
Susie had, in fact, set all this up. Begged Midge to agree to a double date. To try and bury the hatchet one final time with Sophie Lennon, and so, for Susie, Midge had agreed.
She has to admit, that generally, if Susie or Lenny are asking her to do something, there's a very good chance she'll say yes. Usually that's not a problem. Susie's asks are rarely this kind of uncomfortable. Midge had balked at the idea at first, but eventually given in.
Lenny hadn't been thrilled, but he'd eventually given in, too.
"She owes me so big," he'd grumbled. "She's not my manager, she's yours, so you let her know that she owes me."
Now, they're waiting at the bar of a restaurant that is far too fancy. Sure they go out to places like this for anniversaries occasionally, but this is not either of their scenes, to be sure.
It's Sophie's scene.
And Sophie, and whoever her date is, are late.
Lenny is about to turn and order them a second round of drinks when the doors swing open dramatically, and there is Sophie, in all of her splendor, with a handsome man about her age trailing behind her.
"So sorry to be late!" she cries, floating over to Midge and air kissing each of her cheeks in a way that makes Midge nearly jump back into Lenny's arms in fright. "We were held up a little...if you know what I mean." She wiggles her eyebrows in an exaggerated fashion and beams. "Leonard! So nice to see you again, darling!"
It's Lenny's turn to nearly jump into Midge's arms, as she watches his eye twitch just a little. "Hello."
"I don't believe the two of you have met my very special friend," Sophie beams, gesturing towards the man accompanying her. "This is Albert."
Albert smiles widely, shaking Lenny's hand and kissing Midge's. "So nice to meet the both of you! Sophie has talked so much about her very funny friends."
"Garcon!" Sophie calls, trying to get the host's attention. "Garcon! Yes, we're ready for our table now!"
"Yeah, I'm definitely killing Susie," Lenny mutters in her ear. "What I need you to do, is pretend to throw up in the bathroom in about twenty minutes so we can leave."
Midge gives him a pained look. "I promised."
"Midge. This might literally kill me. And if not me, at least my very bad boy reputation."
"It, and you, can survive one night, can't it?" Midge asks as they follow Sophie and Albert to their table. "I will make it worth your while."
Lenny lifts an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"Any and all bedroom requests fulfilled for one entire night," Midge tells him.
"Any. And all."
"For one night, and one night only."
He takes a deep breath. "It's a good offer."
"It's a great offer."
"Deal. And I get to pick the corset."
"You're a predictable man, Leonard, we both know it's gonna be the show corset."
"Excuse me for having taste," he mutters as they sit down.
