#SaveInternet
Hello guys.
This is a serious post about europeans rights and freedom.
EU copyright reform is a new law that could potentially change the face and use of the Internet in Europe forever.
According to many experts in the field to be threatened by the new EU rules on copyright will be above all the free circulation of online information that today represents the predominant feature of the web.
Art. 11 and 13 if approved by the EU, could lead to a serious threat to the free circulation of information online.
What is Article 11?
Article 11 could lead to the establishment of a real tax that large online platforms such as Google and Facebook should publish to publishers, in order to publish and share the news on their platforms.
What is Article 13?
Article 13 provides that all content uploaded online in the European Union must first be checked and then published in order to prevent copyrighted material from ending up online without due protection.
The preventive control system on the material published online should therefore function as the YouTube Content ID with an automatic recognition that checks that in all the images contained in each video there are no contents protected by copyright, in order to avoid their publication without permission or to show them only with advertising.
Content ID is a complicated and very expensive system and it seems almost impossible that a similar mechanism can be applied to every image, video or article uploaded online within the European Union.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE ART. 11 AND 13 WILL BE APPROVED BY THE EUROPEAN PARLIMENT?
to be able to share articles or fragments of them, even if they are 20 years old, you should obtain a special license (for a fee) from the publisher.
tweeting even 4 or 5 words of a title of an article published by a publisher without license is a violation of the extent of copyright for publishers.
sharing a "press publication" article on social media without a license is copyright infringement: the image preview and the snippet of text that Facebook, Twitter, Google automatically generate when sharing a web address are subject to licensing.
sites like Pinterest or Tumblr, which allow users to save an image from the web and use and republish it is a violation of the extent of copyright for publishers.
