Malcolm trying to convince the team that Vivian kidnapped his dad:
Okay but excuse me how DARE Prodigal Son S02E12 end the episode on such a brilliant moment? I feel personally responsible for this and I want to let every one of my followers know that the writers came to me in person in the middle of the night and STOLE this straight from the stream of consciousness of my dreams. HOW DARE THEY.
Vivian to Martin this episode:
The interesting thing about Tom Payne’s hair is that it’s put up in a way that makes him look all professional and then after like one second of doing anything other than walking it’s all wild and crazy...perfectly illustrating how Malcom Bright is always on the edge of insanity. Touché Prodigal Son creators, touché.
prodigal son, “pilot” (2019) // franz wright, “the heaven, god’s silence” (2006) // prodigal son, “the last weekend” (2021)
Okay so ya’ll know I am out here screaming for #saveprodigalson but please don’t pretend we don’t know what would happen in a hypothetical season three.
Martin doesn’t die, he might end up in a coma though
Malcolm will roll around in his own suffering for a bit, questioning if his father was right about him
His mother, Danni and Gil will try to comfort him, it won’t work (at least for long)
If Martin is awake he’ll repeat what he said again.
Malcolm might have some legal ramifications but those won’t stick because A. He’s got a lot of police friends and B. He’s a rich white guy who can afford a great lawyer.
Stressed out he’ll want to find a new case. Everyone will want him off a “case” whatever that ends up being, Malcolm won’t listen and will investigate anyway.
Malcolm won’t want to talk to his father, until he does.
The show continues like normal with solving a case per episode.
Rinse and repeat steps 6 to 8.
At some point Malcolm will accept he perhaps liked stabbing his father. He will grow a bit closer to becoming the Prodigal Son and accepting his father is at least partly correct but that’s a slow progressive thing you’ll hardly notice is there.
Anyway, so yeah. Not hard to figure out considering season one and two were basically the same. Season ones cliffhanger was much more annoying than seasons twos cancelled cliffhanger.
So actually let’s try and save Prodigal Son?
This stuff is so stupid. We have to try to appeal to this higher power, some faceless network and ask them to take a chance on the show we love. To invest in it and trust the fans will support it enough to warrant that investment.
I hate Netflix, I hate the networks who say they are for the fans but are actually dirty faces liars BUT we are beholden to them and this isn’t going to change so...
Let’s actually save Prodigal Son?
It’s time to vague post...I just read a post saying that the best part of Prodigal Son is that Malcolm is a “good person” and that he won’t “end up like his father” because the writers are like that but...wtf. Martin LOVES his son. Like actually loves him. Martin is a diagnosed sociopath and narcissist YES but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love his son. He considers his son is a part of himself and what does a narcissist love most in the world? Himself. Thus Malcolm is loved by Martin as much as he loves himself.
Also. They celebrate him going to therapy and how other characters deal with his PTSD but I’ve never thought his father was the source of that PTSD and if this is the case then they aren’t actually helping. Of course in the last episode (omg please save this show and not let it be the last) they could throw this all in my face but I’ve never thought Martin was the exact cause of Malcolm's problems. The problem is PEOPLE and their morals, their judgments. People telling Malcolm what is and isn’t okay to think and feel. He’s afraid of being “evil” and thus he’s afraid of himself. Malcolm has some serious catholic-eske guilt here. Yes Malcolm is a good person, but he sometimes has bad thoughts or feelings and he’s AFRAID of them. His tremor isn’t caused by his father being in his life, it’s caused by the constant judgement Malcolm thinks people have towards him, people he think believes that if he accepts his father in his life then he is accepting what his father has done. His tremor is a suppression of his true self, whatever that self is BUT we have yet to really see that person since he suppresses that person deep inside.
In S02E12 when Malcolm is asked about his father he declares that his father is a violent serial killer but also HIS FATHER. The true key to Malcolm recovering is accepting who he really is, and part of that person loves his father, warts and all.
So I hope that Malcolm “gets more evil”, I hope he does bad things. I hope he finds out who he really is inside. Yeah I also want Danny to die, they have the creepiest interactions, she doesn’t understand him at all AND she would shoot his father in a nanosecond (hurting Malcolm). Plus wouldn’t the angst be like super high after her death? I don’t want him with any woman, I want him to know himself and romance is just a distraction.
Have you all forgotten what the name of this show is? It’s “Prodigal Son”. You know...the Bible parable about the son who thought one way, went out into the world and learned he was wrong, only to return to his father thinking he would hate him but instead his father welcomed him back with open arms? Malcolm is the son who thought one way but learns his father was right all a long; pretty obvious stuff here folks.
TLDR: No body understands the real Malcolm, Danny is the worst (get rid of her), Martin loves his son, the only ship in this show I support is a father and his son.
