Florida = Flori-DUH
I unfortunately live in the, as one of my former teachers put it sardonically, “Progressive State of Florida", and many out there may not know but here in Miami, the asinine politicians are conspiring to shut down 22 libraries, including my beloved childhood nostalgia West Kendall Regional Library, under the context of “cutting funds" (it will not surprise me that this is also some Republican grand scheme of keeping voters illiterate).
If they succeed, more than 200 city employees will be lay off and thousands will no longer have free access to literature and culture and additional education, especially for those in home-school and who can’t go to school or don’t have Internet at home. But it seems to me, despite many abundantly demonstrating support to keep these libraries open, there’s not a cacophonous public outcry that will rattle those bureaucratic jackasses at city hall.
PLEASE, ANYONE OUT THERE, HELP!!! I starting to lose hope that we can save the libraries, but I’m an obstinate little bookworm and I refuse to believe the “Age of Books" is coming to the end — this came from the turd-inept Mayor of Miami Carlos Gimenez.
I know that we are in the midst of the Digital Age — technology is definitely the future — but this is also the Information Age, and libraries are only more imperative than ever!!

And spread the words. Go on Facebook, go on Twitter, contact celebrities and writers! Contact the President of the United States!!! I thought the U.S. is a democratic nation, and libraries equal democracy.
Our goal is to make our voices heard to our commissioners--our elected officials--and let them know that we SUPPORT our public libraries. August 29 is the next scheduled Board of County Commissioner Meeting--after our Truth in Millage notices (TRIM) go out in the mail. By cancelling the Board of County Commissioners meeting, our elected officials made it virtually impossible to recall the tax rate -- but not completely. Our goal is to continue to pressure our Board and Mayor to fully fund our Library and public services. Let your voice be heard by contacting your commissioner. District 1 - Barbara J. But as users of the library, proponents of public service, and as taxpayers, we know the value of our libraries. We know that is it not necessarily about affordability, but about improving our community and making Miami a world-class city. Libraries slated to be shuttered: California Club, Opa-locka, Golden Glades, Civic Center Kiosk, Lemon City, Little River, Model City, Culmer, North Shore, Shenandoah, South Shore, Fairlawn, Virrick Park, Country Walk, Concord, Sunset, Lakes of the Meadows, Tamiami, West Kendall Regional, Doral, Hialeah Gardens and Palm Springs North, according to the Miami Herald.
