“Uuuuh-- How’s... I’m not sure I understand how the two are... related?”

“But I suppose you could say the two are perceived as both wild and natural in their beauty. They both carve a point of connection for all those experiencing that particular beauty. Maybe? I’m not very philosophical on the matter honestly.”

Do you think Fane would fit in well in Hufflepuff? Why or why not? (If not, which house do you think would suit her best and why?) ...And also, why can I not ask you something on anon? ;)

As per this character meme that was floating around a while ago Fane could go either way between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff and I do technically head canon he’s a very decent split between the two but Ravenclaw is his predominant house.

Fane’s always stuck between being earnest and critical which is a predominant feature of why I say he could be in either or. Ravenclaws are usually quite opinionated and critical of things going on around them-- they’re interested in the why and the hows whilst Hufflepuffs are more interested in how what is going on will impact upon people. Leading on to the issue that it can often be difficult to tell the difference between when he’s being earnest versus him being wry and sarcastic. He gets enthusiastic and passionate about the things he cares for; once you get him going it’s hard to stop him and like all Puffs he’s very dedicated and loyal to things he feels strongly about whether that’s tasks or people.

He’s also not super competitive and for the most part when he isn’t engaged in an activity that’s engaging his mind he’s pretty relaxed and go with the flow which again I would see fitting well with his puff traits. Except he can get SUPER competitive with himself. He’s drawn to things that require dedication and thought it’s just how he works.

Fane’s always torn between giving his opinion and not wanting to step on people’s toes as well as being stuck between his own RIDICULOUS amount of stubbornness and his values of open-minded tolerance. He also totally can’t help but jump in on debates and he gets madly frustrated when people aren’t willing to debate pros/cons or talk through a situation to try and find some sort of solution to a problem he might think he sees a solution to or even give him an explanation he wants. His frustration also grows when people aren’t always willing to traverse the nuances of situations and has a difficult time in letting go until people do understand which leads to this entirely getting the better of him and coming off as morally superior and a know-it-all. It’s never ever intentional though sometimes it strikes me that some people think it is, it just happens because he’s frustrated because he doesn’t entirely understand which is what he wants to do.

He’s drawn to people who are both fiercely intelligent, unique in their own way and steadfastly kindhearted; not always in equal measure granted but he gravitates certainly towards these sorts of people i.e. Tuah, Faye, Dani, Sam, Rein etcetcetc, Fane is also prone to blending highbrow and lowbrow interests, he’s not entirely about his academic pursuits and is interested in a majority of other things beyond that. As a student I totally see him taking an interest in other extracurricular activities beyond his studies but he totally has a rock-solid work ethic but again only about stuff he’s passionate about.

Finally, HE’S ALWAYS CONTRADICTING HIMSELF because he’s always trying to rethink his opinions to better them along with rethinking his place in the world. He’s curious and tries to be open-minded and is entirely willing to hear other people out if they give him the time to explain why they think or feel a certain way which can be frustrating to some but it’s how he works since he takes a genuine interest in how other people process things.

How would you describe your favourite body of water (ie a pond or river or ocean, etc)?

I remember travelling once in Spring through the western border of Slovenia and northeastern side of Italy. There’s a river there, known as the Soča or Isonzo it’s the most emerald bodies of water I think I’ve ever set eyes upon. And when the sun hits those waters they just seem to sparkle. There was nothing better than sitting down and just enjoying the sight of it.

Do you think you've done a sufficient job?

“No. And I doubt I’ll ever think I will have, especially if one of my oldest friends and allies shoulders the blame for a crime I know he didn’t commit.”

Is there anything about your character that could be considered physically unattractive (not counting scars or anything inflicted by an external force)?

Beyond the fact his shoulder’s aren’t of an even height due to past injury and damage which is something he gets awkward turtle about there’s the fact that:

Without any sort of facial hair Fane’s face is oval and looks kind of baby faced and he HATES IT. 

Also the fact without his glasses or some sort of aid he can’t see anything in the distance.

Bright colours really don’t tend to suit him well at ALL, while he still has a little bit of flush to his features he’s otherwise relatively pale and colours seem to accentuate the redness rather harshly. It’s partly why he sticks to a more neutral palette colour in his wardrobe it suits his tone far better.

He’s very fussy about things, meticulously so and if a detail or something is wrong it’s a travesty and more often than not Faye has to hear about it. 

He can sometimes be too put together, and take too long about things that really shouldn’t need a long thought process behind them. Fane overthinks things a lot.

Fane’s hair gets oily pretty quickly and he tends to have to wash it out at least every few days otherwise he just feels icky about it

When did you start questioning?

“That’s sort of a complicated question for me. Or, well it was if you’d asked me four centuries back but that’s mostly because of the cultural and social environment I was raised in where you weren’t allowed to be anything other than straight without risking prison and execution for sodomy. I liked my life, I definitely wasn’t ready to face any sort of truth like that so I guess I pushed back against it all rather hard. Marriage, courting, betrothals - I blew a lot of opportunities if only to give myself some space to breath more comfortably. Now, it’s like yeah I’m pan, so what? I’ve been that way for maybe the last two centuries.

I think I’ve always known on some subconscious level that I wasn’t straight since I was young. But there were no role models that I knew for it, no models at all. Looking back I definitely internalised a lot of those models and expectations of behaviour if only to please my family and try to maintain the correct appearance. Plus, we lived in the forests in the arse end of no where and when I did get to go to the central capitol it was for political reasons. 

I’ve always been interested in all sorts of people regardless of their gender, people’s personalities interest me and the reasoning behind their choices in life but I didn’t really let myself consider anything of the sort until after I’d made the decision to forfeit my position and take up my own ventures. I metaphorically tossed it all out the window to find a new life for myself and in doing so broke my family’s hearts. I think a part of me still knew that despite my decision they still loved me but I also realised if I stayed on the route they expected of me I would never figure out who I truly was. So, I guess the short answer to this is when I was a kid but only willingly entertained the notion when I was around twenty-nine ish - just after I settled in Paris.”
