Sawbenches

I got a bit tired of using 5 gallon buckets as sawbenches in the shop, so I thought I’d go ahead and build a set for myself.

These make sawing to a line nearly effortless!  I can saw pretty well, but the improvement in the ease of sawing is really something.  Using that center slot everything lines up perfectly, and your hand and eye coordinate without your conscious brain getting involved.

I've had a few questions about the saw bench I've been using. It was one of the earlier projects with my instructor. I remember him suggesting I try one practice dovetail (as this project would require my first ever dovetail). Upon cutting each piece and attempting to fit them, I asked him "it's pretty close, should I try hitting it with a mallet to seat it all the way?" He said "sure, give it a try and see what happens." Of course it exploded and sent a pin flying. Then he explained that the joints should be tight but set with hand pressure only :) #sawbench #projects #dovetails #wood #woodworking #douglasfir
