Put together the frame for the coat rack. Used some cherry and some very simple hand cut dovetails. Pretty happy with how it turned out.
The finish is still drying but it's complete.

Art reflects life...
I'm knitting a cowl (Dovetail by Melanie Rice) to match the tool box I built over the last few months at my dayjob! The tulip poplar I used was from some boards in VERY different colors- the more typical pale grey/beige and a very olive green. I wanted to remember it with a commemorative knit since I painted the box and then gave it to its new owner.
Time to chop some dovetails
The dovetails are complete. Through dovetails with rabbeted backs to eliminate the need for stopped grooves. I was busy cutting those lately. Do you also need so many tools for a simple task? #dovetails #byhand #handtools #oldschool #furniture (at Alexandria, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg4KD4YrwCs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Dovetailed pine box
I've just completed a machinist style tool chest made from teak, figured anigre drawer pieces with marine grade plywood bottoms. I made the carcass of the cabinet with hand cut dovetails. There's a clever slot to slide my framing square into the cabinet. I now have a place to put all of my handtools, including a few tools that belonged to my grandfather as well as my great grandfather. Woodworking goes back in my family many, many generations. To be able to do this kind of work adds real meaning to my life, knowing that I've been carrying on a family tradition and standing in my ancestors footsteps.
