Hey! I was just wondering, what method did you use to get the green and gold-orange markings on your Penny dress? I've looked at a couple of ways, but they don't come out as well as yours have. Also: Happy Birthday! Best wishes for the coming year~
ahhh, thank you! Are you talking about the round things on the hips?
If you are, that’s called piping! It’s a pretty cool technique but it can cause HUGE headaches when you curve it like I did.
I found this great tutorial :3
(I learned from my mom though: she’s an actual professional at sewing so there we go)
I first encountered piping with my Kallen cosplay. My mom had to help a lot with it. There was a shit ton of it

For Penny I did it all myself cause I now have the skill to do so

As you can see, what I call the "hip huggers" are piping. It's also tears of pain and frustration.
The bottom part is simple bias tape.
The bottom green part is a panel. Here's a fun tutorial that might help with that.
Let me know if that can help at all! D:
Hey! I came upon your blog about a month ago I think, and your pictures convinced me to cosplay a genderbent!Penny at PaxAUS this year. Any advice as to how you get in (and stay in) character as Penny?
Oh my god this is actually one of the sweetest things I've ever read. I can't believe my cosplay convinced you I'm so happy. You HAVE to make sure I see photos, okay? I NEED to see them.
The thing about Penny is that she's very extroverted, so it takes a lot of effort and work to stay in character. I honestly suggest before hand having some quiet and alone time to gather enough strength. To get into character, I often just smile at myself in the mirror and do "COMBAT READY" poses while saying over and over again that I'm COMBAT READY.
To stay in character is a lot of work. Just try to be very curious of everything that's going on. Penny would have no idea what the fuck this convention is. I also often like asking people who recognize me (cause if they do, they gotta like RWBY) "Have you seen my friend Ruby? I've been looking all over the convention for her!"
You can also ask people who recognize you if they want to be your friend, haha. It's a LOT of work, but I'm sure you can do it! <3 <3
(DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE I SEE THOSE PHOTOS TAG ME IN THEM IF YOU HAVE TO)
TTGL! Go.
