38:What role does your character play in their story?
Saylin’s a plot mover. She makes things happen and is a very proactive member of this cast. I won’t go into details b/c spoilers though.
40:What would be your character's favorite school subject?
History or foreign languages. Saylin’s a diplomat so she’s all about other cultures and such.
42:What would be your character's dream career?
She’s living it, actually. Saylin is currently the royal ambassador for the nation of Halcym and it’s her job to negoatiate agreements and such with other nations and coordinate all of the assigned ambassadors who are stationed out and about.
More recently this involves a lot less of negotiation with other countries around them and more negoatiation with other worlds. She’s usually one of the ones to make first contact and to head up initial negotiations. After things start going well, she’ll try to get an embassy established and appoint a full-time ambassador to stay there.
Her current “project” is trying to get an embassy or any kind of negotiation going on with the world of Syiari, but seraphs are JERKS and don’t want to talk to her or her country or have anything to do with her. Much to her eternal frustration.
44:What is your character proud of?
She’s pretty dang good at her job for the most part and she’s earned her right to represent Halcym abroad. Also you wouldn’t hear her admit it out loud but she is engaged to the prince and that’s a fun situation. She’s pretty sure she’ll make a good queen someday.
46:Would you want to trade places with your character?
I’m almost embarrassed to admit how much I kinda wish I was Saylin. She has my dream job and she’s good at all the things I want to be good at? Gimme. Also I will be very nice to her fiancé okay?
48:How would your character type?
She’s perfected the official document style of writing and can be very formal when she needs to be. With casual correspondence she’s a little more relaxed but probably still fairly proper.
50:What is your favorite thing about your character?
She very much has a heart for the abused and oppressed and she uses her power and influence to try to do things about it. Halcym is on Mondial, the world of summoners, and Saylin tends to be kind of a crusader for stricter laws regarding familiar contracts to keep summoners from abusing them.
There’s a lot of familiars that get into bad contracts just because they don’t know what they’re doing or the summoners intentionally trick them. And then it’s “Well, you agreed to it, so it’s your fault you didn’t know what you were getting into and didn’t read the fine print.” Saylin wants to make sure there’s guidelines in place so that familiars are assured basic rights and safeties, no matter what kind of contract they’re in.
Another reason she’s so set on getting negotiations open with Syiari is that the seraphs and anjenni mistreat the lowest class so horrifically. Saylin thinks if Halcym and Syiari had diplomatic relations, she might be able to start pressuring for societal change there too.
60:If you could title your character's life, what would you title it?
I continue to be horrible at this question.
Saylin: “I appreciate your culture and society but if you’re hurting people you’re wrong.”
