When taking this quote literally, from the perspective of someone who can’t hear, this is my take on it. But remember, this is my take based solely on a literal sense and meaning. The audience being “deaf” could be a metaphor for people being ignorant or lacking wisdom, as in deaf to the wisdom of life versus being actually medically deaf. But, either way, it’s still shady to use the term in this way.
This quote is great from the hearing perspective but quite offensive from the deaf perspective. What the hell. Deafness does not prevent a person from being able to enjoy music.
After all, music is a series of vibrations, and deaf and hard of hearing people do indeed FEEL vibrations. So, in essence, d/Deaf/HoH people feel music, whereas hearing people hear it, but it’s still music nonetheless.
It’s rude to say the music is nothing if the audience is deaf. That’s like saying, pertaining to music, the audience itself is nothing if they’re deaf. Hello.
So, basically, this quote is saying, “Hey, deaf people, don’t go to music concerts, operas, Broadway musicals, or the theater because there’s really no point”
