I hate Oda right now. Franky will always be the Father of Straw Hat. I'm not gonna sing the family song of One Piece.

I understand where you’re coming from. And it’s understandable to feel betrayed at the moment.

I can't say I hate him, because for me, right now, I am just confused?

It is such a weird decision that makes no sense? At all...

Franky being the dad was just right. His whole demeanor is so very much "I'm a dad™", even without taking shipping into the equation.

This whole background is about being part of a family, creating a family. After he was abandoned from his real parents, he was taken in by Tom, who he saw as a father figure? He was just a child and that was probably the first time he experienced something like family even if it was never by blood.

This is just shown further after he returned as a Cyborg, creating the Franky Family. There he was called Aniki - Big Bro but still he was the leader of the Family. Maybe not a Dad just then but close enough.

And then with the Strawhats? Chopper and Usopp calling him Big Bro in Thriller Bark, later Oda saying that Franky is the Dad with the Strawhats?

And after the timeskip, the scene when he is amusing the younger Strawhats? Showing off his body and the cool gadgets?

His whole empathy towards everyone who is asking for help? Caribou? The Tontattas? The Minks? The Samurai?

Talking about the Tontattas, Frankys super-manly fight with Senior Pink? Both of them being hardcore manly men? Super masculinity on display, so much that it seemed almost ooc?

ALL THAT!

And then Oda - the dude who is using information he established 1000 chapters ago - suddenly turns around and calls Franky a "an old perverted hag"?

Taking also in consideration that Franky calls himself a pervert (hentai), because he changed himself and not because he is a pervert who drools after women.

So why not at least an uncle??? Or another brother???

Sorry all of that seems too weird. None of this makes sense.

it would make more sense to make Robin the weird grandma, with her morbid sense of humor she would be perfect for the role of a crazy old lady.

Jinbe literally gave life to Luffy (blood transfusion), so making him a mother would make more sense than taking the role of the dad from Franky.

I'm still waiting for more sources before I admit anything or get any more upset.

I'm a little out of the loop, what happened? Jinbe is dad now?

To make a long story short, Volume 99 came out in Japan and with that the SBS. (read them all here in the Library of Ohara)

And since Jinbe is finally officially a Strawhat, Oda answered all the trivia questions that he already answered for the rest.

And yeah, as in the family Jinbe is now the father and Franky is the pervy grandma.

A lot of fans are upset about that. Less about the "oh no! our FRobin!" (because one or two setbacks won't stop us) and more about "Wow. Why is Oda doing Franky so dirty?"

It's just baffling because Franky being the dad just felt right because of his past... So yeah, that was the cry out this last week.

Can we all just agree that atleast from Water Seven all the way to the end of Dress Rose (And that one Motorcykle part on Wano) Oda has actually given us his fair share of Frobin moments.

That is a good sentiment.

There are so many moments that scream FRobin, that one little side note that isn't even relevant to the main story won't stop us.

I'm a bit disappointed too about the last information. But,be honest: the crew is "like" a family. They young members "seem" like siblings, and the adults "seem" like married. They aren't really married and aren't siblings. As someone already said, some informations from Oda need to be consider serious. Other ones, not at all. Like Franky changed from a father to a granny...or do we want to remember the family with granny Robin married with old Brook? Oda sometimes is crazy, that's it is!

You are absolutely right and to elaborate further:

The Omake (no omake) should never be taken serious. Or otherwise it's canon that Zoro is the most ugly princess of them all. Also Robin want's to be a teacher.

Also Usopp is the mom and married to Zoro.

The SBS on the other hand do have some canon value. Even if from question to question it has to be considered anew how serious it is to take.

We do learn lore from the SBS which is why they are more important than the gag comics like the earlier Omake, OP Party or even Chopperman. In SBS 99 it was - for example - also revealed that O-Toko is not Ebisu's daughter by blood.

BUT

we also know that Oda likes to avoid questions if they come too near to a plotpoint. Again in SBS 99 Oda avoids to answer, about what other Baby Roger and Rayleigh are talking about. (Question 15)

There are also always many boob-related questions who have no canon value... really.

Also we all have to remember stuff like that the birthdays are all based on puns submitted by fans. The Strawhat jobs were also submitted by a fan and Oda went "yeah sure, why not. Seems about right."

I also think it's fascinating that Jinbe's colour is ocre, he would be from India and train-station staff.

... he can work with Kokoro I guess?

I would have never guessed any of that though.

It's a sad day. I'm very disappointed with Oda.

That is very understandable. After riding a high for the last few months this blow hurts even more.

So since SBS 99 revealed that Usopp, Sanji and Robin are the barbers of the crew I’m having fun imagining which one each Straw Hat prefers to get their hair cut by.

Luffy - Usopp

Zoro - Usopp

Nami - Robin (much to Sanji’s sadness, though sometimes he gets to do it)

Usopp - Sanji

Sanji - Usopp (he wants Robin but usually Robin’s busy or deflects him somehow, but sometimes he gets her)

Chopper - Robin

Robin - Sanji

Franky - Robin

Brook - No haircuts, keep the afro intact
