I've seen this edit and I stand by what I said. I'm not down for this take because it or some variation of it always seems to water down the severity to which Black Americans are marginalized by white society and end with a "finally! we have it worse now." The only reason why the mangling of Black British language and culture now seems worse to you is because it just recently permeated the mainstream. Everyone assumed you were white because literally in the last two months white Europeans trotted out their "anti-America" takes en masse to peddle in their antiblackness and claim Black Americans had privilege over them for being visible and living in the imperial core.

I don't understand how you can see Black Americans begging for white people (American and European alike!) to stop butchering and bungling their language and culture for years and at first whiff of white society turning their gaze to Black Brits, immediately it's somehow Black Americans' fault this happened. Do not pretend like this is not yet another potshot at Black Americans in a long line of Black European and African smugness. Do not go with this line of reasoning. Do Black Americans know everything there is to know about Black British culture? Of course not. You don't then turn around and demand Black Americans do your activism for you. Telling Black Americans "do better" like it's Black Americans victimizing you and not the white Brits in your country. Focus on that first!

In addition, and on a much more frivolous note, it's not just that Hobie and Pavitr are mischaracterized more because they aren't American. You're seeing them everywhere because they are the most popular yaoi ship right now. You won't see Miles because his pairing is with Gwen and slash shippers hate women. In the first movie the focus was on Peter B. and fucking Spider-Noir. Miles, if mentioned at all, was having his parents deleted out of fanworks because they could not fathom that Miles is Latino and that a black boy had a black father still in the picture. Also, they were characterizing him as aggressive, thuggish, and a thief. The racism in the fandom is atrocious and you don't need to take jabs at Black Americans to point that out. That's what everyone's trying to tell you.
