Anne Skoogfors Floral Intimations

In her artmaking, Anne Skoogfors draws on the complex yet familiar attributes of flowers that are shared by many cultures. Her distinctive mode of creation lends each floral arrangement qualities that are both graphic and elusive. Untethered from the earth, they float in a netherworld of deepest black, their vibrant colours dissolving into shadow as if they are already in the process of quietly departing – the intimacy of non-becoming forever stilled by a sweep of light.

My hand and glove became the object of art for this series of artworks. Utilizing a flatbed scanner, I became intrigued by the idea of motion, both my hand and the scanner sliding across the bed. I was interested in seeing how my movements would be interpreted. I put on dance music to inform my movements, twisting and bouncing along and varying the shape into various position over the light. The output I felt was a form of another dimension realized by the act itself of going through this experience. Without the act itself, I would have no image to show you. In arriving at an appropriate title for the series, I have named this ‘Morpheus' Hand’. Morpheus, similar to the word metamorphosis, is the son of Hypnos and the god of dreams.
