@scarecrowisms replied to your post: odysseus, in disguise: who was your master? maybe...
your commentary > every movie adaptation of greek mythology that i’ve ever seen
also when i read the odyssey for school i remember thinking “odysseus sounds like kind of an idiot?” but my teacher was so into The Drama that i was like i must be misreading it from my modern perspective, there’s no way odysseus is that much of a chaotic dumbass. but every time you post about it you confirm that yes, he is indeed a chaotic dumbass, of the highest order, and it’s great and i love him
sjgksjgs thank you, i’m extremely flattered
odysseus has...... a brain, but it’s the kind of brain that will outsmart a cyclops and then, on the way out of dodge, think it’s a good idea to shout back “and the name is ODYSSEUS, by the way! O-D-Y-S-S-E-U-S! haha loser”; and also openly admit he did that when he’s telling the story later
when he’s in disguise on ithaka he tells eumaeus “i wouldn’t lie about odysseus! i hate people who lie for their own gain” and then eumaeus is like “ok, who are you” and odysseus lies for 4 pages
later in the same book, he gets cold at night, and instead of asking eumaeus to lend him a cloak, he makes up a 50-line story that basically goes “when i was a soldier in the trojan war lying in ambush with odysseus, i told him that i was freezing my ass off, so he tricked another dude into delivering a fake message from a dream he never had, and the guy was in such a hurry that he left his cloak behind. That’s How Odysseus Got Me Free Cloak, and it was awesome. the end.”
chaotic smartass =/= chaotic smart and i love him so deeply
